Lloyd E. Mizer, 91, of New Philadelphia died Saturday, May 6, 2006 at Park Village Health Care Center.
Born September 23, 1914 at Fiat, Ohio he was a son of the late Jacob and Alice Schumacher Mizer.
Lloyd was a prominent educator and genealogist in Tuscarawas County and the Sate of Ohio. He held a B.S. and M.S. Degrees from Bowling Green Sate University and was an elementary principal and an assistant Professor at Muskingum College and an instructor at Kent State Division of University Branches. He was listed in “Who’s Who in American Education” and was the recipient of the 1969 Ohio State Elementary School Principal’s Distinguished Service Award.
He compiled and edited three volumes of “A Genealogy of the Meisser Family” with indexes of over 50, 000 names and “The History of The Schools in Tuscarawas County”. Lloyd was president of the Meisser Genealogy Association, which holds an annual national reunion. He was president of The Ragersville Historical Society Inc. and was active in the Tuscarawas County Retired Teachers Organization, Tuscarawas County Historical Society and Tuscarawas County Genealogical Society and was a Life Member of the National Education Association.
Lloyd is survived by a brother, Orrin (Ruth) Mizer of Illinois and many special nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Howard, Allen and Irvin Mizer and a sister, Alta Youngen.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at 11:00 am in the Ragersville Lutheran Church with Pastor David Hammel officiating. Interment will be at the Ragersville Cemetery. Friends can call in the Toland-Herzig Funeral Homes and Crematory at Dover on Tuesday from 6-8 pm.
