John B. Wood

John B. Wood, son of David and Eliza Wood, was born in Lyons, Ohio April 15, 1838 and died July 21, 1918, aged 80 years, 3 months and 6 days.    He was married to Ellen T. Daniels Nov. 7 1860.    To this union were born three children, one daughter dying in infancy, two sons, Lue L. of Lyons, and Arthur C. of Adrian.    Besides the wife and two sons he is survived by four grandchildren, Carl, Pearl, Kenneth and Harry Wood, the latter brothers being in France, one great grandchild Carleston, one sister, Mrs. S. K. Clark, one brother Jerome all of whom live near him.

He was veteran of the civil war and took great interest in the terrible conflict going on today, walking daily to the office to get the latest news.    His devotion to his wife, home and his quiet, peaceful life, was an open book read by all.   His greetings to his neighbors and friends were always cheerful and happy, never seeming to get old.    Only within a few years has he seemed to be in poor health, but his sturdy constitution kept him from giving over to disease.    His presence will be greatly missed by friends and relatives alike, but the memories of his life will never be forgotten.    John B. as he was familiarly known, has lived his entire life in and around Lyons, and there was no dearer spot on earth to him.    The motto which he lived, was the Golden Rule, "As ye would that men should do unto you, do ye also to them likewise."
