This is a good start for the story. Born Glenn Albert Radcliffe in 1946 to Maxwell and Hazel Radcliffe (who was the Third Grade Teacher for most of the Class of 1964.) Born about the same time was a cousin, also named Glenn. Consequently, there were two Glenn’s in the family and Glenn Radcliffe became Al Radcliffe. How is it that Al became Glenn again?

To follow Paul Harvey’s famous words: “And now, for the rest of the story.” Following graduation, Al was off to a small college where the professors actually inquired who was in the class by name. The college documents all contained the birth name, and thus, Glenn Radcliffe reappeared, as a matter of convenience, by not having to explain who is "Al".

For everyone from Lyons, it has always remained Al. For the rest of the world, it is Glenn.

Following graduation from College in 1968, marriage took place with the former Diane Eckel. Two children were born Troy M. Radcliffe in 1973 and Leslie C. Radcliffe in 1975. Troy lives is Lewis Center, Ohio and was just recently married. Leslie resides in Tucson, AZ and is an R.N.

Following graduation from Adrian College, with majors in Economics and Accounting, Al taught High School business subjects and coached basketball. In 1970, he started a long career with the Allstate Insurance Company Claims Department, both in Toledo and later in Tucson, AZ. After a buy out from Allstate, after 32 years, he subsequently began work with Goldberg & Osborne Attorneys at Law, the largest plaintiff law firm in the State of Arizona.

Al resided in Lyons until 1999 and during that time he and Diane operated a photographic studio specializing in Portraiture. Al became an award winning photographer. Also, the hobby of pure-bred dogs (Saint Bernards) took them to world prominence as a successful show kennel. Opdyke Kennel holds the majority of the conformation show records with the Saint Bernard Club of America. Al is the only active member of the Saint Bernard Club of America to have been awarded the Top award at the National Show three years in a row.

The dogs that Al and Diane bred and owned have appeared on television at the annual Westminster Dog Show held at Madison Square Garden and were also in the movie Beethoven. Al judges Saint Bernards for the American Kennel Club and his judging has taken him to Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Thailand, Norway, Holland, Italy and to numerous locations in the United States.

Currently Diane is retired and Al works at reduced schedule to allow them ample time to travel, which is one of their primary interests. Just last year, they visited Antarctica, which meant they have now visited every continent. They also enjoy cruising and ballroom dancing.
