CHAMPION, Clare S. December 27, 2004 CHAMPION Clare S. Clare S. Champion, age 81, of Lyons, Ohio, passed away Monday, December 27, 2004, in Glendale, Arizona, where he and his wife spent the winter months. He was born October 5, 1923 in Metamora, Ohio to the late John and Flossie (Davenport) Champion. He obtained his bachelors degree from Bowling Green State University and his masters degree from Eastern Michigan. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. On August 10, 1952 he married Betty Lue Burry. Clare was a band director for 10 years with the Maddison school district and a guidance counselor for 20 years with the Sylvania school district, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Metamora United Methodist Church and the Emmaus group. Clare is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Betty Lue; son, Jeffrey Lynn (Trudy) Champion of Adrian, MI and daughter, Mary Ellen (John) Leppa of Glendale, AZ; grandchildren, Christie Pearl, Eric Jay and Scott Roy Champion, and Kaitlyn Michelle Leppa; brother, William Champion of Elma, NY and sister, Laura Lee of Fremont, OH. Visitation will be Thursday, December 30, 2004 from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Metamora, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at the Metamora United Methodist Church on Friday, December 31, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Phil Park-Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Amboy Twp. Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Metamora United Methodist church. Clare will be remembered as a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
