OBITUARY:
GALLIANI, Dr. Maurice M.
June 25, 2009




Dr. Maurice Galliani     ADRIAN – Dr. Maurice M. Galliani, age 84, of Adrian, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2009 at his home. Dr. Galliani was born February 15, 1925 in Pola, Italy, the son of Federico and Silvana (Sestilli) Galliani. In 1954, four years after graduating from the University of Rome Medical School, Dr. Galliani immigrated to the United States. On April 27, 1957, Maurice married Sonya A. Miller in Angola, Indiana. Sonya, his wife of over 52 years, survives.

     Dr. Galliani started his general practice in 1962 in Lyons, Ohio while practicing anesthesia at Morenci Hospital. In 1964 he became the first certified anesthesiologist at Bixby Medical Center where he practiced until his retirement in 1989. During that time, he served a term as Chief of Staff. For several years, he wrote a weekly human interest column for the Daily Telegram. Known for being physically active throughout his life, Dr. Galliani could often be found at the gym or taking extended bicycle trips.

     His greatest passion was his family. In addition to his wife, Dr. Galliani is survived by his children: Maura Riou of North Port, FL; Federico “Rick” Galliani and his wife, Amy Wolf of Coral Springs, FL; Cristina and her husband Todd Wolf of Tipton; and Giancarlo “Gianni” and his wife, Nicolette Barnard of Sunrise, FL; and a brother, Claudio (Graziella) Galliani of Rome, Italy. Also surviving are six treasured grandchildren, Angela and Jacquelyn Galliani, Paul Michael Wolf, Laura (Steven) Steinle, and Alexandra and Nicolo Galliani. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Fabrizio Galliani.

     Cremation will take place at Dr. Galliani’s request. Private services will be held in Pennsylvania. You may send condolences to the family at www.wagleyfuneralhome.com. Contributions in memory of Dr. Galliani may be made to the Lenawee County Library, Lenawee Humane Society or Hospice of Lenawee. Envelopes are available at Wagley Funeral Home.
