SPRINGER, Helen Anna (MIKA) March 21, 2009 Helen Anna Springer, 81, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg. She was born in Lyons, Ohio on March 26, 1927 to Frank and Anna (Smistik) Mika. She graduated from Lyons High School in 1945 and Siena Heights College in Adrian, MI. In 1950 she met her future husband, Jack on a triple blind date. They married in 1954 and settled in Dearborn, MI. Perrysburg became their home in the 1960's and they have been active in the community. Through St. Rose Catholic Church, Helen was commissioned as a Eucharistic Minister bringing communion to the sick; she was a co-chair of the Toledo Diocesan Cursillo Monument; and she led the RCIA program at her church. She was a very dedicated member of the Perrysburg Garden Club, past president of Anthony Wayne Garden Club and Golden Membership Chairman. Helen was also a Nationally Accredited Flower Show Judge of the Ohio Judges Council. Helen is preceded in death by her brothers, Frank (Marian) and Martin, and her sisters, Mary (Paul) Radcliffe and Frances (Harold) Schneider. She is survived by Joseph, Jerry (Virginia) and Charles (Dolores) both of Lyons and sister-in-law, Helen. She has 19 nieces and nephews and many more grand nieces and nephews who will miss her. Friends will be received Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 2-9 p.m. at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419-874-3133) where a scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 2009 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 E. Front Street, Perrysburg. Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima, Lyons, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made in Helen's name to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or St. Rose Catholic Church. "Jack" March 21, 2009 John E. "Jack" Springer, 79, died on April 29, 2009, at Heartland of Perrysburg after a brief illness. He was born on December 9, 1929, in Flint, Michigan to Rosemary Celestine (O'Rourke) and Raymond W. Springer.He spent most of his life living in the Detroit, Michigan area. After attending a military school in Georgia, he graduated from Sandusky High School in 1947. In 1955 he received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Detroit. He met his future wife, Helen Mika, in 1950 on a triple blind date and they were married in 1954 settling in Dearborn, Michigan. His business career was spent as a Branch Manager with the Viking Fire Protection Company. In the 1960's the Springer's moved to Perrysburg where he was active in the community and with his church, St. Rose Catholic Church. He was actively involved with the Perrysburg Township in various positions. Through St. Rose he was on the Pastoral Council, the Liturgy Committee, the Retreat Team and the Cursillo Movement. He was commissioned as a Eucharistic Minister bringing communion to the sick and was awarded the St. George Award from the Toledo Archdiocese for his volunteer efforts. He was also the St. Rose boy scouts' Scout Master for Troop 167 and in 2004 was awarded the Silver Beaver Award, the highest honor given a volunteer. Jack was preceded in death by his wife on March 21, 2009, and other relatives including his parents; his brothers, Ray and Dick; his sisters, Jeanne and Barbara and a niece, Celestine. He is survived by several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law along with his twenty-three nieces and nephews and nineteen nieces and nephews of his wife's. Friends will be received Monday, May 4, 2009, from 2-8 p.m. at Witzler-Shank Funeral Home, 222 E. Boundary Street, Perrysburg (419 874-3133) where a Scripture service will be held at 7 p.m. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 a.m. at St. Rose Catholic Church, 215 E. Front Street. Burial will be held at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Lyons, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Ohio, St. Rose Catholic Church or St. Rose Boys Scouts Troop 167. Condolences may be made online to the family at www.witzlershank.com. |
