(1814 - 1902) An Old and Highly Respected Citizen of Lyons Passed Away Tuesday E. C. Daniels, one of Lyons oldest and most respected citizens, having been a resident of this place for over 60 years, died Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M. E. Lauderdale, in this place. Following is the obituary as read at the funeral. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Again death has made its appearance in our midst in the demise of one of our pioneer and time honored citizens, Father E. C. Daniels. Mr. Daniels was born at Nelson, Madison County, N. Y., November 22, 1814 and died March 4 1902 aged 87 years, 3 months, 12 days. His parents came to Mentor, Lake County, O., when he was a child where he lived until 1840 when he, his wife and one son came to Fulton county and settled in Royalton Township. Here he has lived ever since first locating in the county. His wife died November 10, 1896. He leaves three children, Albert C. Daniels, Mrs. Ellen T. Wood and Mary Lauderdale, and their companions. Eight grand children and 11 great grand children also survive him and mourn their loss. His occupation was that of a carpenter and joiner and in later years he followed the business of farming. He built this church and also the one that stood on this same ground before it. It will be remembered by the older people here that he was undertaker for this community for many years in the 50's and 60's; making the coffins and dressing all the lumber by hand. Father Daniels and wife united with the Church of Christ, worshipping at Lyons and were baptized by Brother Blackman in the autumn of 1858. Of this church Brother Daniels has ever since remained a most faithful and consistent member. He loved the church and its work and gave his most hearty support to all its activities. His memory will be a lasting benediction to this community. In the fullness of a faithful and well spent Christian life he has been called to his blessed reward above by our beneficent Father in heaven. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The funeral was held Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in the Disciple Church and was largely attended. (1833 - 1910) Eliza Wood was born in Oneida county, N.Y., November 5, 1833 and came with her parents to Lyons in 1835. She was married to Perry Hamlin March 12 1848, and to this union were born five children, two of who are now living - Mrs. A. E. Winters of Elm Hall, Mich., and Will P. Hamlin of Alexandria, Ind. She united with the Christian church at Lyons 47 years ago, and about 30 years ago removed to Morenci, where she united with the Baptist church, her membership being retained in that church until the time of her death, which occurred at Elm Hall Monday, May 16, in her daughter's home, where she had been tenderly cared for during the past four years of her life. She bravely bore her part in the strenuous pioneer days, carrying her full share of life's burdens. She leaves to mourn their loss, besides her only son and daughter, one sister, two brothers, twelve grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. She has gone to join those that have gone before and for who she has been waiting and longing, where parting is no more and sorrows never come. ~~~~~~~~~ W. P. Hamlin of Alexandria, Ind., and Mrs. A. E. Winters of Elm Hall, Mich., wish to thank the choir of the Lyons Christian Church for their kindness in attendance upon the funeral of their mother, Mrs. Eliza Hamlin, and also thank the ladies of the Morenci Baptists church for their presence and for the beautiful flowers they so kindly furnished. (1869 - 1929) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ No one hears the door that opens Through which they pass beyond our call Soft as loosened leaves of roses One by one our loved ones fall.    On January 27, 1889 he was united in marriage with Miss Lela Briggs, of Chesterfield, who, with his two children, a son Carl L., and a daughter Mrs. Roy Burry; four grandchildren, Carleston, Robert and Lela Mae Wood, and Betty Lue Burry; and one brother, Dr. A.C. Wood, of Adrian, Michigan, survive.    For 13 years of Mr. Wood's life he was employed by the government serving as a railway mail clerk, the remainder of his life being spent in and near Lyons.    At his death he was the senior member of the produce firm of Wood & Wood.    To all he was familiarly known as "Louie". His quiet and unassuming manner, his cherry smile and kindly greeting have passed, but the memory of his courage and determination to carry on in spite of failing health, his marked devotion to his family, his loyalty to his community and its' interests, a generous neighbor and a friend to all, will remain an invisible but beautiful memorial. We all are debtors to the dead. There, wait on everything we do The splendid souls who've gone ahead To them I hold that bound By double pledges to be fine Who once has had a friend has found The link twixt mortal and divine. |

b. 9 Aug 1890, d. 9 Nov 1970 ![]() Lyons, O. - Mrs. Edna Mae Wood, 80 of Lyons, died Monday in her home. A native of Cleveland, Mrs. Wood lived in Toledo for a short time before moving to Lyons in 1910**. She was a member of the Lyons Church of Christ. Surviving are her husband Carl; sons Carleston, of Dresden, O., and Robert, of Lyons; daughter, Mrs. Lela Mae Marlatt of Lyons; 11 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Biehl-Malone Mortuary, Lyons, with burial in Lyons Cemetery. Obituary copied from the "Toledo Blade" December 10, 1970 **This date is in error. It should read 1913      My grandmother would never tell her age. She was born in Cleveland and that seems to be accurate re: her single mother working/living there for years. However, Mom & I looked thru microfilms from the Mormon library for 2 years prior & 2 years after with no success at all. At that time they often didn't record the mother's surname let alone a name for the baby. Her mother's name was Anna and we have no idea what part of Cleveland she lived in when my grandmother was born.      My grandmother's biological father, birthdate, etc. have been the great mystery on Mom's side of the family. Do know my grandmother was adopted by George Day when she was very young after he married her mother, Anna Francis. Grandpa Day reared my grandmother as his own and he & Grandma Day had 2 sons of their own.
