The letter ELLIS FAMILY OF WEST VIRGINIA

Henrietta (Titlow) Ellis
(January 10, 1826 - December 19, 1892)

(The following is from a funeral card)

Whom the Lord Loveth He Chaseneth

There is no death! What seems so is transition,
This life of Mortal Breath
Is but a suburb of the life elyslan,
Whose portal we call death.

In Loving Remembrance of

Henrietta Ellis
Died, Dec. 19, 1892,
Age 66 yrs., 11 mos., 9 days

Holy Bible

A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled:
A place is vacant in our home
     Which never can be filled.
God, in His wisdom, has recalled
The boon his love had given,
And though the body slumbers here,
The soul is safe in Heaven.

(The above was on a black funeral card, with gold lettering and decorations. The 4 line poem was in a rectangle. Her name, date of death & age were on the cover of a portrayed bible. The 8 line poem was on an inscribed, rolled piece of parchment at the bottom of the card. Leaves & floral decorations are under & around the bible & parchment. If you calculate her birthdate back 66 yrs, 11mths & 9 days, her birthdate would be Jan. 10, 1826 not 1827, as recorded in the family bible.)
