Hubert E.Whiteman

Hubert E. Whiteman, 76, of 241 Ore St., Bowmanstown, died Thursday in the Sacred Heart Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Marion (Keiper) Whiteman.

He retired in 1980 after 30 years of service with the Bethlehem Steel Corporation and was also a former chief of police in Bowmanstown.

Born in Bowmanstown, he was a son of the late Daniel and Mary (Meinhart) Whiteman.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Bowmanstown.

Whiteman was an Army veteran of World War II.

He also belonged to the Lehighton American Legion Post and Bowmanstown Volunteer Fire Co., and was an honorary deputy sheriff of Carbon County. He delivered Meals-on-Wheels in Palmerton for 15 years.

Surviving in addition to his widow are two brothers, Willard and Robert, both of Bowmanstown; a sister, Mrs. Helen Ahner of Lehighton; two grandsons and three great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Bonita Otto.

The Thomas K. Thomas Funeral Home, 145 Delaware Ave., Palmerton, is in charge of the arrangements.
