Mrs. Evelyn J. Heydt, 81, formerly of Jim Thorpe and Albrightsville, died Wednesday in the Mahoning Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 397 Hemlock Drive, Lehighton. She was the widow of Earl D. Heydt Sr., who died April 17, 1969.
Prior to retiring, she was a hostess at the Sportsman Restaurant, Blakeslee and also had worked at Steve's Diner, Jim Thorpe, and as a cook at the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton.
Born in Meckesville, Albrightsville, she was a daughter of the late George and Emma (Meckes) Keiper.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Albrightsville.
Surviving are a daughter Nancy, wife of James Melber of Jim Thorpe; a son, Earl D. Jr. of Albrightsville; a brother Lawrence of Kresgeville; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was also preceded in death by three sons, Roy, Carl and Amos; and three sisters, Beatrice, Isabela Schoch and Carrie Gehr.
The Edward F. Melber Funeral Home, 524 Center St., Jim Thorpe, is in charge of the arrangements.
