Arrived in Lower Norfolk, Virginia with Oliver Sprye in 1635.

John Cherry, the first of the family in America, produced a great brood of descendants who have scattered far and wide. At some point, this family moved from Norfolk VA to Skewarky (known today at Williamston), in Martin County of North Carolina. Also moving were other families that made up the first inhabitants of old Skewarky, and founded the old Skewarky Primitive Baptist Church, which is still is use today. These other families, Ferrill, Eastwood, Biggs, and others intermarried and many of their descendants live in this area today. Among those named Cherry are a great number of African Americans in the area, descendants of the workers who opened this new country on the farms and plantations which helped our country grow from its infant stages into a productive new land. John ^ CHERRY and Abigail ^ [wife of John CHERRY] were married before 1640.
