10. Lemuel ^ PREWITT47 was born about 1761 at Halifax County, Virginia. He appeared in the census in 1820 at Maury County, Tennessee. 110101-22001 next to dwellings of Abner and John Prewitt He appeared in the census in 1840 at Monroe County, Mississippi.48 He has a land record, recorded on 27 Feb 1841 in Columbus Land Office, Monroe County, Mississippi, described as 49 Sons Mark & Kirk bought land on same date, Kirk also bought land in 1835, Mark purchased MS 1090__.195, 1170__.355-356, MS 1170__.358, 1170__.364, Kirk purchassed MS 1170__.198, __.357. Elisha D purchased MS 1180__.139, 1110__.127, on Feb 1, 1841 he purchased and MS 0060__.187-.189 and on Sept 25, 1835 purchased MS 0270__.020.

A James Prewett also purchased land on Feb. 1, 1841, Austin L. on 2/27/1841 (MS 1180__.140, and Abner Prewett on 2/27/141 MS 1170__.126, .261-.267 He appeared in the census in 1841 at Monroe County, Mississippi. He died on 10 Aug 1844 at Aberdeen, Monroe County, Mississippi. He appeared in the census in 1845 at Monroe County, Mississippi. Since he died in late 1944, the date of this census may have included individuals living at a certain date in the prior year. He was buried in Family burying ground, on Prewett land, near Boliver, Monroe County, Mississippi. His reference number is 93ML-BN. Brought many wagon trains from Maury County, Tennessee to Monroe County, Mississippi.
The Prewetts were so favorably impressed with the new land they decided to move to Monroe County themselves in about 1821/22, settling on the east side of the Tombigbee River, southeast of Cotton Gin Port. They were large landowners and a prominent and influential family. According to Gen. Reuben Davis' memoirs, the Prewitt family was also though well of politically.

The first court in Maury County, Tenn met at the house of Col. Joseph Brown, about three miles south of Columbia on Dec 21, 1807. A court of pleas and quarter sessions was organzied by the justices who had previously been appointed by the General Assembly. they were John Dickey, John Miller, William Gilchrist, William Frierson, Isaac Roberts, John Spencer, John Lindsay, Joshuar Williams, James love, Lemuel Pruett and William Dooley.

The first Circuit Court was opened in the court house in Columbia on November 25, 1810 with Lemuel Pruett among the jurors.

In History of Tennesse, is is also said that Lemuel Prewett settled at Cave Hill or Cave Spring, west of Culleoka in 1807. He is also listed among those who petitioned for the formation of Maury County in August1807 Lemuel ^ PREWITT and Catherine ^ BRANTLEY were married about 1788 in Wilkes (Warren) County, Georgia.

Albert Prewett 28 Merchant TN He died on 19 Aug 1871 at Monroe County, Mississippi. He was buried in Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery, Aberdeen, Monroe County, Mississippi. He was about 15-16 years of age when the family moved to Maury County, Tenn. In 1822, after his marriage he moved to Monroe County, MS where they settled on the east side of the Tombigbee river, southeast of Cotton Gin Port and north of the site that was to become Athens in 1830. He was said to be one of the largest landowners in old Monroe County,

In 1842, he bought Block #79 in the new town of Aberdeen. This was a ten acre parcel ofland located on the northeast corner of Commerce and Matubby Streets. There he built an antebellum house on top of the hill facing Commerce. This house is still standing.

Larkin PREWETT was born in 1791 at Wilkes (Warren) County, Georgia. He died in 1830 at Monroe County, Mississippi. Made his home on the east side of the Tombigbee River on 80 acres of land, approximately 3 miles southeast of the town of Cotton Gin Port (About 1 1/2 miles south of present day Amory).

He was elected to the State Legislature from Monroe County, and served in the 11th Sesson, in 1828.

Elizabeth N 16 F MS He died on 11 Oct 1879 at Aberdeen, Monroe County, Mississippi. Moved from Maury County, Tn to Monroe Couty, MS about 1822-23, settling on the east side of the Tombigbee River. Their farm was about 140 acres, located in Sections 22 and 23 TN 12S, R 18W, south of Old gaines trace and north of present day Hatley. He later purchased additional acres and in 1835 owned 500 acres. He and his wife were members of the Baptist Church of Christ at New Hope. In the 1840s the Prewetts moved to the west side of the Tombigbee and built a house in Aberdeen.
