CHERRY6,17 was born in 1806 at Virginia. He died on
13 Jun 1834 at Monroe County, Mississippi.18,19 He's Obituary appeared in in
Nashville Daily Advertiser, Nashville, Tennessee on on 5 Jul 1834 as follows:
Obituaries from early Tennessee Newspapers 1794-1851 edited by Rev. Silas Emmett
Lucas, Jr. p. 67 which recites as follows: Cherry, John C. In the 28th year
of his age. Died in Monroe County, MI (MS) On Friday the 13th day of June at
6 o'clock. National Banner & Nashville Daily Advertiser. (Sat. July 5,1834.)
A copy of the newspaper of that date adds that he died of consumption. No other
genealogical information was included in the article.
It is believed there were no other children of this union, as John Cherry died
at a very young age. He has a land record, recorded on 27 Feb 1841 in Columbus
Land Office, Monroe County, Mississippi, described as 20 He has a land record, recorded on 27 Feb 1841 in Columbus
Land Office, Monroe County, Mississippi, described as 21 The book, Story of Monroe County, 1988, states
that Newell C. Cherry and Evalina Prewett were married in Maury County, Tennessee
The book Obituaries from Early Tennessee Newspapers, 1794-1851 states
"A Kenneth Cherry died in Maury County". His age or date of death
is not given, but it was published in the Nashville Banner and Nashville Daily
Advertiser Jan 10, 1829.
In Monroe County, MS., there is a marriage record of Willis W. Cherry to Margaret
Allen Clark on 27 May 1835 with IGI reference M-520092-0364. He may well be a
brother of John C. Cherry. Same Willis W. Cherry and wife Margaret show up in
Saltillo, Lee County, Mississippi, as well as a James M. Cherry, possibly another
brother.
Inasmuch as a son was born in Tennessee, it is likely they married in that state,
however, place of marriage as Alabama near Tuscaloosa should not be ruled out.
No record of their marriage has ever been found, although Cherryville, TN. is
a likely place of origin.

Tennessee.5. Evelina C. ^ PREWETT22,23,24,25 was born in 1810 at Maury County,
Tennessee. She died after 1880 at prob. Saltillo, Lee County, Mississippi.
The IGI for Mississippi shows an Evelina Cherry who married a George
W. Coopwood in Monroe Co. 10 Dec 1836., Batch No 520152, Serial 0128, but
original of marriage bond shows bond dated 10 Dec 1836, but marriage date as
15
Dec 1836. Bond was executed by G. W. Coopwood and R. W. Bampass or Bunpass.
After her marriage to William W. White, they settled on 160 acres of land about
1 mile west of present day Hatley. After his death, she went back to visit in
Maury County and there met and married John C. Cherry. After his death, she married
her third husband, a widower with children
1880 cenus of MS Lee County. in which Evelina is shown as mother of N. C. Cherry,,
Family #551. In 1850 census Newell C. Cherry is shown in Monroe Co., MS. in
the home of G. W. and Evelina Coopwood.
