Genealogy – Keepers Family of Virginia

Group 12

The families listed in this 2009 edition for group 12 are totally different from previous editions.  The “old” group 12, progenitor: J. S. L. “Louis” Keepers, was found to be a subgroup of Group 6, Washington County, Maryland.  Anyone seeking information about Louis and his descendants will find it in Group 6.

Louis was born in 1835 in Virginia.  His parents have been identified as William and Rebecca (Morris) Keepers. The families in the “new” group 12 have been tentatively placed as the children of Jonathon Keepers, born in 1792 in Maryland.  Jonathon was William Keepers’ uncle.  Other than geography, there is no good reason to assign Jonathon as progenitor of this group.  There may well be some other footloose Keepers who wound up in Virginia in the early 1800’s.  The two men listed as Jonathon’s sons, Ely, born about 1808, and W., born about 1813, may not even be brothers.  Jonathon would have only been about 16 when Ely was born – not highly probable, but it is a place to start.

I am publishing this group in order to get the information public so that living descendants might recognize the families and contribute verifiable data.  These families were previously in a miscellaneous file and unpublished.
