War of 1812-1814
William Keepers, Private, in Capt. Dodd’s Company of Infantry Regiment, New Jersey Militia, commanded by Lt. Col. Joseph Jackson. He was on the company muster roll from September 18 to October 19, 1812. On October 19, 1812, he was located in Bergen County near Jersey City. Under Remarks: “Discharged, not fit for duty.”[1]
In the endnotes for William, Group 16, it is noted that William was not listed in his parents’ estate documents in 1813.[2]
Joseph, brother of William, was also a Private in Capt. Dodd’s Infantry Regt., NJ Militia, commanded by Lt. Col. Joseph Jackson. He was listed on the company muster roll from September 18 to November 30, 1812. He was listed as “present” at the time William was discharged “near Jersey City.”[3]
Joseph’s rate of pay was $6.66 per month. His total pay was $17.08, with the Remark: “4 days pay included in these calculations allowed for coming to and returning from place of rendevous.”[4]
