SC Wiggins Family Documents: Census - Deeds - Probate - Wills
There were some early Wiggins in Virginia who might be the ancestors to the Pee Dee Wiggins, but his is only conjecture on my part and not based on any evidence. One of the first finds for this surname was a John Wiggins and Catherine Baker of Nasamond County, VA who married about 1724. Hmmm, the name 'Baker' seems interesting and if you read on, you'll see why.
There were several Wiggins families in northeastern South Carolina early on. Of these earliest settlers, it appears that there was at least one (maybe two) named Jesse Wiggins. A Jesse Wiggins supposedly joined General Frances Marion’s Army during the Revolution, and he along with William Shaw, a Mr. Dewitt, and about 2 others got on their Horses and made the trip to Charleston, S. C. Family lore goes that they fought in and about the Pee Dee River and only got off to gather their crops. It appears that this Jesse Wiggins was born about 1756, probably in North Carolina. He died about 1826 at age 70 leaving wife, Mary, and at least five children, Micajah Wiggins b. abt. 1776, also Willis, Jesse, Thomas, and Martha. A second? Jesse Wiggins and his wife, Mary, had five children: Thomas, Jesse Jr, John, Sarah and Mary Jane.- (See Wills link above).
A Jesse Wiggins sold Micajah Wiggins 64 acres in 1812 near the Pee Dee river for 64 dollars. Family descendant, Austin Wiggins, still owned this land the last I checked.
Lewis Wiggins was probably the father to the second mentioned Jesse Wiggins. He married Charity (Unknown Maiden). In Lewis Wiggins' Will dated 1809, he named his wife Charity, and children: Jesse, Lewis Jr, Isaac and Desdmony. William Keeffe, Jr proved this will in 1809 (see Probate link above).
Another Wiggins in this area was a Baker Wiggins who died about 1829 and had children: Rick B, Sarah Lester, Samuel B, John W, and Mary. This Baker Wiggins supposedly migrated to Marion District from North Carolina about 1803 (see Probate Link above).
