MYERS Family*
Related Surnames: Bostick, Coleman, Hyman, McCown, McPherson

In 1745 Daniel and Sarah Myers came from Germany into the Port of Charleston with two little sons, George and Daniel. What became of George is not known, but the son, Daniel Myers (1743-?) married Frances Simmons (sister of Mary Simmons who married John Timmons; see Timmons page). Daniel and Frances Myers had four children, two boys and two girls: James, George, Sarah, and Frances.

George Myers (1773-1816) married Mary Harrell and together they came up Lynches river to a place then called Anderson Bridge (present day Florence County). George’s brother, James Myers (c1772-?) may have also settled in this area, but definite documentation has not been found on his whereabouts.

A George James Myers (1816-1893), son of above noted George Myers was listed in the “The Last Foray” with owning a large Plantation on River Road along the Pee Dee and 112 slaves. Like his father he also married a Harrell, (Sarah Rebecca).

Later descendants of this line lived in the large Bigham house where the infamous family murders occurred in 1921. ( See
Bigham page).

There is also a William Armstrong Meyers who was born about 1818 supposedly in Germany. A tertiary source which I have not confirmed states that William A. Meyers sailed to the Charleston, SC port. He then moved to the area around present-day Pamplico, SC (Florence County). He was a member of Hebron Baptist Church at Friendfield (per church minutes) and is buried there along with others of the family. Later descendants of this family spelled the name Myers.

Notes:
There were some with the Myers surname in the state of South Carolina that migrated from New York around the mid 1700s. It appears this New York group had land granted to them in the 1740s in Richland County near the Wateree river. They do appear to be a distinct family from the Myers of the Pee Dee area.
