(Related Surnames: Cain, Coleman, Exum, Finklea,

The original port of entry to North America for the Hymans is not certain, but a Hugh Hyman was settled early in Bertie County, North Carolina and there he died in 1757. His son, John Hyman I, evidently moved a little south to Martin County, NC after his the father’s death. Once there, John Hyman I married twice and had eight children, including a John Hyman II. This John Hyman II married Elizabeth Burnett and had two known children: John Eaton Hyman and Laurence Hyman. These two brothers settled together along the Pee Dee river in the early 1800s. John Hyman married Welthy (Unknown Maiden); and Laurence Hyman married Martha O'Cain.
