CURRY Family*
Back to Keefe lineage
Family legend for this surname says that the Currys (also spelled Currie) had their
origins in America with three brothers who came from Scotland in the late 1700s.
However, this researcher has not found any documents that show any related Currys
traveling together from Scotland. Two individuals, though, with the Curry surname
do appear to have sailed from Scotland to separate colonial ports just before the
beginnings of the American Revolution.
As for the first Curry Family members in the Pee Dee area, they may have migrated from North Carolina about 1840. I have not quite sorted out these families, but David, Samuel and William Curry/Currie may have been brothers. All three men had families in Marion District before 1850. (If you find an error or addition needed here, please contact me).
David Curry (listed in Marion 1850 census as born in NC) married Elizabeth, and they had these children:
Welthy, John, James, David who married Sarah Elizabeth Keeffe and (maybe others).
Samuel Currie married Terzah Ann, and had these children:Francis Ann, Robinson, John, Duncan, Samuel and Nancy
William Currie married Nancy Parsons? They probably had several children, but the only one I have record of is a Daniel Currie/Curry. The son, Daniel, married Eliza? and had children: Unis and Nicholas D. (children unconfirmed)
.
