BACK TO REEVES COVER PAGECaptain James Edward Reeves shown above. Dr. Robert Bell hired him as captain of the expedition to the Northern side of Hudson Strait during the summer of 1897 along with the crew of four from Halifax and some Eskimos. The Dr. Bell expedition had two purposes related to the fishery and the navigation of Hudson Strait. Interestingly during the exploration around Baffin Island, Dr. Bell named an uncharted bay "Reeves Harbour" in honor of his captain. Reeves Harbour is located in the territory of Nunavut at 62° 32' 00" N - 70° 21' 00" W.
