MacKINNON, Raymond Vincent - 46, North Hills Terrace, Don Mills, Ont., formerly of Sydney, died January 1, 1993, in Providence Villa Hospital, Toronto. Born in Sydney, he was a son of Mary Anne (Gillis) MacKinnon, Sydney and the late John Alex MacKinnon. He was a member of Bonaventure Parish, Don Mills and a former member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Sydney. He was employed as a power cable technician. He is survived by his wife, the former Lorna Reeves; three daughters, Denise, Karen, Donna, all at home; son, Darren, at home; two sisters, Mary (Mrs. Pat Larade), Sydney; Agnes (Mrs. Paul Grundy), Prince Edward Island; six brothers, John, Grand Mira; Donald, Joe, Michael, Ambrose, Albert, all of Sydney. He was predeceased by a brother, Rannie. The body is in T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Redeemer Parish, Rev. REEVES, Marion Isabel - 85, Dartmouth, died January 24, 1993, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in McLellans Brook, Pictou County, she was a daughter of the late James and Florence (Johnstone) Reeves. She was a former teacher in Plymouth, Riverton, Westville Road Schools, Pictou County and taught in Dartmouth, retiring in 1972. She was a choir member of Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn, Pictou County, and member of Dartmouth Choral Society for 24 years. She was a former organist of Musquodoboit Harbour Presbyterian Church; member of Dorcas Rebekah Lodge, Thorburn and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Dartmouth, where she served as organist, choir member and secretary to the minister for 19 years. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by four sisters, Margaret, Mary, Elizabeth, Christine; four brothers, John, Irving, Henry, Howard. The body is in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, School Street, Dartmouth, visiting 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, where funeral will be 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Rev. Sandy MacDonald officiating. MacKAY, Donald Ross - 85, Wolfville Nursing Home, Wolfville, formerly of Albert Street, New Glasgow, died February 15, 1993, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Glace Bay, he was a son of the late Sidney R. and Eleanor (Jackson) MacKay. He and his late brother, James M., were founders of Tidewater Construction Company, New Glasgow. He was past president of Nova Scotia Road Builders Association and Bluenose Curling Club; longtime member of New Glasgow Gyro Club and a member of Scottish Rite. He is survived by a daughter, June (Mrs. J.A. MacLellan), Kentville; son, D. Robert, Toronto; three grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Jerry Pitre; two sisters, Eunice Torey, Mary B. Reeves; brother, James M. The body is in R.H. CANAVAN, Gordon Stuart - 68, Cambridge, Kings County, died February 24, 1993, at home. Born in Green Hill, Hants County, he was a son of the late Charles J. and Mary V. (Turpel) Canavan. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas. He attended Nova Scotia Agricultural College, Truro, graduating in 1948. He then attended MacDonald College, Montreal, graduating with a B.Sc. Later, he attended Mount Allison University, graduating in 1959 with a B.Ed. He taught school throughout Nova Scotia until 1972, when he began working as a carpenter throughout the Annapolis Valley. He is survived by his wife, the former Clara Mary Turpel; three sons, Gordon Stuart Jr., New Westminster, B.C.; Peter Donald Robe, White Court, Alta.; Kevin Joseph, Halifax; three daughters, Patricia Mary (Mrs. Leon Reeves), Prospect, Kings County; Doreen Katherine (Mrs. Larry Swindell), Cambridge; Cathy Elaine (Mrs. George McGrath), Inuvik, NWT; two brothers, James, Green Hill; Cecil, Niagara Falls, Ont.; three sisters, Mary Lynch, Truro; Pearle Lauder, Ottawa; Evelyn McPhadden, Pickering Village, Ont.; 12 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter. MASON, Charles E. (Charlie) - 40, 34 St. Joseph St., Lourdes, died March 11, 1993, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow, he was a son of Frank and Bunnie (MacKinnon) Mason. He was a resident of Lourdes most of his life and lived eight years in Calgary. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton and for the past few years was very active with the Pictou County Help Line. He is survived by his former wife, Sandra Reeves, Montreal; daughter, Sarah, Montreal; two sons, Aaron, Ryan, both of Monreal; two sisters, Linda, New Glasgow; Donna (Mrs. Chester McMullin), Milford; two brothers, John, Ottawa; Michael, Lourdes. Curtis Hurlburt dies at 100 HURLBURT, Curtis Leroy - 100, Pleasant Valley, Yarmouth County, died March 14, 1993, in Nakile Home for Special Care, Glenwood, Yarmouth County. Born in Carleton, Yarmouth County, he was a son of the late Abijah and Fostina (Roberts) Hurlburt. He was a veteran of the First World War; member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 167, Carleton and a retired woodsman and owner and operater of a sawmill. He is survived by a son, Arthur, Pleasant Valley; brother, Harold, Pleasant Valley; two sisters, Viva, New Hampshire; Edith, Florida; a grandson; two great-granddaughters. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Flora Reeves; second wife, the former Una Durkee; three sisters, Bertha, Lena, Myrtle. REEVES, Catherine Blair - 87, IOOF Home, Pictou, formerly of High Street, Pictou, died May 3, 1993, in the home. Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of the late William D. and Blanche (Green) Chisholm. She was a graduate of Mount Allison Ladies College, Sackville, N.B. As a young woman, she was well known in the Pictou County area as a pianist and vocal soloist. She has been a resident of Pictou since 1934. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as organist and also as a member of the choir for many years. She was a life member of Atlantic Mission Society and also life member of W.C.T.U. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star 17 and member of Princess Rebekah Lodge 4, Pictou. She is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth (Mrs. Ivan Freeborn), Calgary; sister, Mary (Mrs. C.P. Roper), Halifax; a granddaughter. She was predeceased by her husband, John. DOUGLAS, John Thomas - 91, Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou, formerly of Scotburn and Hardwood Hill, Pictou County, died May 14, 1993, in the home. Born in Hardwood Hill, he a son of the late Robert and Sarah (Carson) Douglas. He operated a farm in Hardwood Hill for many years and then moved to Scotsburn where he worked for Scotsburn Co-op and also S.M. Gammon and Son Lumber. He was a member of Scotsburn United Church and Scotsburn IOOF Lodge 140. He is survived by a daughter, Katherine Murray, Scotsburn; two brothers, Arthur, Newton, Mass.; Borden, Fredericton, N.B.; sister, Edna, Calgary; two grandsons. Born in The Forties, Lunenburg County, he was a son of the late Austin and Roxie (Veno) Brown. He had served overseas with Nova Scotia Highlanders Regiment during the Second World War. He was a retired farmer and had been employed with CFB Greenwood for 25 years. Born in McLellans Brook, Pictou County, he was a son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth (Johnstone) Reeves. He was a resident of Merigomish most of his life and was a former employee of the Department of Highways. He is survived by a nephew, Stewart Reeves, Ottawa. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Kathleen Copeland; brother, Charles; sister, Florence. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. tonight in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. MURLEY, George H. - 85, Thorburn, Pictou County, formerly of New Glasgow, died July 19, 1993, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late George A. and Ella (Reeves) Murley. He was a resident of New Glasgow before moving to Thorburn some 20 years ago. He was a member of St. Alban's Anglican Church, Thorburn and St. George's Anglican Church, New Glasgow. He was a retired commercial traveller, having worked for W.R. Brock Company Limited, Montreal for 35 years. He was a member of Maritime Commercial Travellers Association and Albion Masonic Lodge 5, New Glasgow. He was a former member of Philae Temple and former shriner. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by a daughter, Linda (Mrs. Mel Scott), Thorburn; son, Warren, Stellarton and Amherst; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Margaret E. Boston; three sisters, Beatrice McLaughlin, Betty Jakeman, Mildred Conrad. Cremation has taken place. ANSTEY, Evelyn - 88, Halifax, died August 28, 1993, in Dartmouth. Born in Garnish, Nfld., she was a daughter of the late George and Margaret Jane (Grandy) Reeves. She moved to Nova Scotia in 1948, living in Riverport and Lunenburg until moving to Halifax in 1952. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by a son, George Edwin, Fredericton, N.B.; two grandsons, Thomas Angus, Halifax; Derek Edwin, Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews.
