Born in Aspotogan, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Warden S. and Olive E. (Backman) Cleveland. She was a founding member of the 14th Pallette Art Group, Fall River. She was a member of Bedford Basin Artist Society and Sackville Gyrettes Club. Surviving are her husband, Arnold S. EARL AVERY MANUEL, - 80, Veteran's Unit of Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg, formerly of Martins River, Lunenburg Co., died January 15, 1997, in the veteran's unit. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Edgar Avery and Inez May (Bezanson) Manuel. He was a member of St. Martin's Anglican Church, Martins River. He served in the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Forces in England, France, Germany, Scotland, Italy and Holland for a two year period with the Princess Louise Fusiliers. He was employed by Irving Oil Co. Ltd., as a burner service mechanic for 24 years. He was a very thoughtful, caring and generous man with a great sense of humor, who was well known by many and will be sadly missed. He is survived by his wife, Minnie S. (Richard) (Boutilier) Manuel; daughters, Donna (Mrs. Howie Oakley), Cheryl (Mrs. Brad Brake), Cole Harbour; Holly Boutilier and companion Boyd Harris, Krista (Mrs. Stewart Elliot), Fall River; Karen Boutilier and companion Vince Watts, Lawrencetown; Agnes (Mrs. Malcolm Young), Cole Harbour; sons, Archie Boutilier and wife Lynne, Westphal; Basil Boutilier, Cole Harbour; Blake Boutilier and wife Tina, Dartmouth; Melbourne Boutilier and wife Cheryl, Eastern Passage; sisters, Dorothy (Mrs. George Weagle), Halifax; Phyllis Cox, Western Shore; brothers, Curtis, Ontario; Roy and wife Beu- lah, Halifax; Lloyd, Truro; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; several nieces and nephews. He was a member of Western Shore Pentecostal Church, where he was a deacon for 30 years. MARION MARGUERITE WENTZELL - 86, Martins River, Lunenburg Co., died June 14, 1997, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Martins River, she was a daughter of the late Cecil Ezekiel and Louise Minnie (Mosher) Langille. She was a member of St. Martin's Anglican Church, Martins River, and had been a member of the Canadian Cancer Society, Mahone Bay branch, for a number of years. Surviving are sister, Dorothy Greenlaw, Marriotts Cove; brother, Karl, Martins River; three nieces and a nephew. JOHN URSO, - 89, Martins River, Lunenburg Co., died July 22, 1997, in Fishermen's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Italy, he was a son of the late Sam and Maria Urso. He worked for 21 years with Nova Scotia Institute of Technology until retirement in 1972. He then worked for over six years with Canadian National Railway. He was a charter member of Canadian Federation of Chefs de Cuisine. He had resided with Louis and Marion OHearn, Martins River, for the past several years. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his wife, Laura; son, John Jr.; brother, Joe. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. DAISY BELLE HILTZ - 89, Harbour View Haven Nursing Home, Lunenburg, formerly of Mahone Bay, died August 4, 1997, in the home. Born at Martins River, she was a daughter of the late Titus and Martha (Eisner) Hiltz. She was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Mahone Bay, where she was a past choir member. She and her husband worked in the food service industry, being the managers of a canteen for Allen Enterprises in Tantallon for three years. She was an avid crocheter. She is survived by grandson, Gary Mason and wife Janice, Oakhill; great-grandsons, Scott, Jamie and Michael Mason, all of Oakhill; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil Howard; daughters, Erminie Mason, Sylvia Frampton; sisters, Gertude, Dotie, Claudia; brothers, Ward, Milton, Avery, Forman. LILA JENNETA WHYNOT - 83, Mahone Nursing Home, formerly of Martins River, died August 9, 1997, in the home. Born at Martins River, she was a daughter of the late Aiden and Erna (Eisnor) Whynot. She was a member of St. Martin's Anglican Church, Martins River. Prior to her retirement, she was a cook at Mahone Nursing Home. Prior to his retirement, he was a self-employed interior and exterior decorator. He was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Mahone Bay; member of Charity Lodge, Mahone Bay; York Rite; Scottish Rite; Philae Temple, Halifax, and South Shore Shrine Club. LLOYD ALTON HEISLER - 91, formerly of Indian Point, Lunenburg Co., died December 3, 1997, in Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg. Born in Rous Island, off of Indian Point, he was a son of the late William Henry and Mary Helen (Langille) Heisler. He was a farmer and an inshore and dory fisherman. He was a crew member of the schooner Bluenose and had raced and fished with her between 1928-1938. During the 1920s, he started rowing in the Lunenburg double-dory races. In 1952, he and his partner, the late Russell Langille, Oakland, rowed in the first International Dory Race, held between teams from Lunenburg and Gloucester, Mass., never losing a race. In October of 1982, they were inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife, the former Jennie Shay; daughter, Frances and husband William Redmond, Virginia Beach; sons, Wilfred (Sonny), Indian Point; Garnet and wife Diane, Clearland; two grandsons; four granddaughters; two step-granddaughters; two great-grandsons; six great-granddaughters; four step-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Hope E. Thompson; sister, Ethel Wentzell, Luella Eisnor, Carrie Joudrey, Helen Joudrey, Bessie Tanner, Olive Heisler, two in infancy; brothers, Leslie, William Jr., Henry B., Pearlie; a grandson; a great-grandson. Visitation will be in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay, today from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St. John's Lutheran Church, Mahone Bay, Rev. George Wawin officiating. ROBERT CYRIL NEWELL, - 50, Martins River, Lunenburg Co., passed away suddenly December 9, 1997, in QEII Health Sciences Centre, Infirmary Site. Born in Truro, he was a son of Ella (Heisler) Newell, Truro, and the late Morris H. Newell. He was an employee of Michelin Tire in Bridgewater for the past 26 years. He was an avid sportsman and loved the outdoors. He was a social member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 49, Mahone Bay. He is survived by his wife, Opal (Hiltz); daughters, Peggy and Kelly, both at home; sister, Joan Weatherby and husband Gordon, Truro; brothers, John Smith and wife Joan, Roy Newell and wife Donna, Eric Newell and wife Thelma, Allan Newell and wife Sheila, all of Truro; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by an infant brother, Peter. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be in Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay, today from 7-9 p.m., from where legion service will be 7 p.m. today. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday in St. Martin's Anglican Church, Martins River, Rev. Michael Mitchell officiating. Burial of ashes will be in St. Martin's Cemetery, Martins River. ARNOLD BENJAMIN YOUNG - 75, Martins River, formerly of Martins Point, died December 27, 1997, in Harbour View Haven Home for Special Care, Lunenburg. Born in Waterloo, he was a son of the late Harold and Mabel (Hebb) Young. He was a veteran of the Second World War. He was a member of St. Martins Anglican Church, Martins River, and former member of St. Mark's Anglican Church, Martins Point, having served as church warden, council member and on the parish council. He was a self-employed fish dealer for 36 years, retiring in 1986. Surviving are his wife, the former Margery Kaizer; daughter, Patti and son-in-law Thane MacDonald, Chester; son, Terry and daughter-in-law Vicky, East River; sister, Winnifred Armstrong, Chester; grandchildren, Sheena, Amber and Eve MacDonald, Jessica, Nathaniel and Mitchell Young; a nephew. He was predeceased by brother, Granville; sister, Beulah in infancy. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. DOUGLAS AVERY EISNOR - 80, Martins Point, Lunenburg Co., died December 27, 1997, in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Martins River, he was a son of the late Ozem and Claudia (Hiltz) Eisnor. He was a member of St. Martin's Anglican Church, Martins River. He was employed by Municipal Spraying and Contracting until his retirement. Surviving are son, Raymond and wife Betty, Martins River; grandson, David and wife Judy, Timberlea; sister, Myrtle Nauss, Martins River; brothers, Elmer,  Martins Point; Murray, Martins River; several nieces and nephews.
