August 30, 2002 Herbert Allan Strum, 81 of Fort Myers Beach passed away on August 30, 2002. Herb was born May 9, 1921 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Harvey Allan and Ella Manetta Strum. He became a King's Scout in 1937 with the Boy Scouts Association. During WW II he proudly served for 5 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was discharged as a Flight Lieutenant. He received a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta. He received the prestigious Webb Award for a paper he presented while at the University. Herb immigrated to the US in 1953 to assist with the implementation of the dial telephone system. Herb operated his own engineering firm H.A. Strum & Assoc. in North Muskegon, Michigan for many years. Herb was very active in the original restoration of the historic Hackley and Hume houses in Muskegon during the 1970's. He was a past President of the Muskegon Exchange Club and a member of Lovell Moore Lodge #182 F. & A. M. and the Muskegon Commandry #22 Knights Templar in Muskegon, Michigan. He was also a member of the Fort Myers Beach, FL High Twelve Club. He was Chaplain of the Araba Shrine Temple, a member of the Legion of Honor and a past member of the Araba Temple Pipe Band in Fort Myers, Florida. Herb was strong in his faith and served on the vestries of Christ Church, Owosso, MI, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Muskegon, MI, St. Alban's Episcopal Church, North Muskegon, MI, and St. Raphael's Episcopal Church, Fort Myers Beach, FL. He was awarded the Bishop's Cross for his work in the Episcopal Diocese of Western Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Harvey Edward Strum. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Grayce (Bredin), his daughters Susan, Fort Myers Beach, FL, Patricia, Muskegon, MI, Pamela (Don) Boomer, Rockford, MI and a grandson Travis Boomer of Rockford, MI. A Memorial Service will be held at ___________on September 14, 2002 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Muskegon Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Araba Shrine Temple Transportation Fund, Fort Myers, FL, Hope Hospice, Fort Myers, FL or the Hackley Heritage Association in Muskegon, MI. |
