My Ashby relatives settled in Pike Co., Indiana sometime in the early 1800s..

My information begins with James Ashby who was born abt. 1816.  He married Elizabeth Coonrod (daughter of Daniel Coonrod and Mary Shake) on October 19, 1836 in Pike Co.

  • Benjamin F. Ashby, b. 1840

  • John W. Ashby, b. 1844

Daniel G. Ashby married Mary McCain (daughter of James K. McCain and Delilah I. Kinman) on December 8, 1864 in Pike Co. According to p.441a of the 1870 census of Pike County, Daniel G. Ashby was an illiterate, deaf farmer who was denied the right to vote. His tombstone says "Civil War".

Their children were:

  • Naomi Esthell

  • Ada Esther Asbhy

  • Oves Anderson Ashby

  • Gerald Ashby

Oves Anderson Ashby married Della Muriel Nance (daughter of James Nance and Rosina Ellen Willis) on June 9, 1923. They were my great-grandparents.

Note:  I have seen claims that my Ashby line connects through Capt. Thomas Ashby b. 1680 (>Henry>George>James>James).  I have also seen claims that by making that connection the line can be traced all the way back to Sassfrid who came over with William the Conqueror in the 11th century.  For the purpose of this page I am only including information for which I have documentation.
