Kent County and surrounding area

Kent County was formed in 1826 from a part of Northumberland County and is located in central New Brunswick with it's eastern edge running along the Northumberland Strait from Point Escuminac in the north to Shediac Bay in the south. The western point of the county is approximately sixty miles from the coast.

Researchers should remember that pre 1826 records may be included with Northumberland County records.

This site was created with the hope of encouraging and promoting the study of family history in Kent County and to assist the beginner and the more experienced historian alike.

Acadieville Parish---Formed in 1867 from part of Carleton Parish.

Carleton Parish---Formed in 1814 as part of Northumberland County.

Dundas Parish---Formed in 1826 from part of Wellington Parish.

Harcourt Parish---Formed in 1826 from part of Wellington Parish.

Huskisson Parish---Formed in 1826 from part of Wellington Parish.

Richibucto Parish---Formerly Liverpool and renamed in 1832. Originally part of Carleton Parish.

St. Charles Parish---Formed in 1908.

St. Louis Parish---Formed in 1855. Formerly Palmerston and renamed in 1866. Originally part of Carleton and Richibucto Parishes.

St. Mary Parish---Formed in 1867 from part of Wellington Parish.

St. Paul Parish---Formed in 1883 from parts of St. Marys and Harcourt Parishes.

Weldford Parish---Formed in 1835 from part of Richibucto Parish.

Wellington Parish---Formed in 1814 as part of Northumberland County.
