Josiah Marion McClain of Georgia, son of James and Anna, was
in the Alabama Infantry of the Civil War, leaving behind a wife, Julia King, and
children.
He met Elizabeth
Broadway in Montgomery and may have married her, but no record is
found, having a daughter, Mary, in 1870 and
another daughter, both dying in their youth.
Julia filed for divorce in 1872.
Upon the death of Josiah, Elizabeth filed for widow's pension
in Montgomery County Alabama.
She remarried to John Gardner and appears with him on the
1910 census with Charles, Lorena, and their new baby Lillie Mae.
Much of the old farms in that area are now covered with woods
and we may never find their graves nor tombstones.
Charlie died in 1949, hit by a car, while walking to the
store for milk. There are many familiar names in his funeral memorial book.

Charlie was very spiritual and likely native american with
his small dark features, possibly having indian blood from both parents.
Josiah's mother was only known as Anna, so this may be a clue. Josiah's father, James,
is buried at Indian Creek Cemetery in Georgia.
While visiting Ramer cemeteries I found some indian names on
tombstones so we know they were here, one was Ootcha Broadway, and I wonder if
there is a connection to our Elizabeth. Ramer is a small shady peaceful community
far from the big city of Montgomery, with woods, ponds, and farms - farms with
headstones of the families who once lived there and fences with cow skulls on the posts. The
main highway leading to Ramer is called Warrior Hill and many roads named like Deer
Run or Rising Sun, etc. so I feel that we are on the right track saying the
McClains were of native american blood.
Josiah was named after his grandfather, Josiah McClain of
South Carolina who was married to Nancy Ann Wood, and they had migrated into Georgia
in the early 1800s, long before the Trail of Tears and are buried at Mars Hill
Cemetery in Ackworth GA. Josiah's brother John McClain also moved to
Georgia:

His grandfather's parents were Charles and
Elizabeth Moon McClain who married in Virginia in the 1700s and died in South Carolina. The
Moons had been in Virginia for many years and some migrated into Georgia and
Alabama.
Charlie and Lorena had several children, one called Alice who
married a Carter and had very dark complected children

Charlie's sons were also very dark, told by a bus driver to
sit in the back.

Lineage of McClain
Alice McClain married
Cecil Fenn Carter, an indian, and she died giving birth to
Billy
.*
Charles Allen McClain's funeral memorial book of 1949 had a few
errors but due to the situation and lack of education it is quite
understandable.
Date of his birth was inverted
grandchild was Linda not Lorena
mrs Robinson was Annie Carter's first marriage.
grandma's numbers are wrong again, they married in 1908 and
she was 16 while grandpa was 22 and census records verify that.

friends who called - no McClains at all
