Died of disease at Chattanooga, Tennessee, April 6, 1863. Buried there in Confederate Cemetery. Death claim filed by his widow Margaret McClendon. Description: fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, five feet eight inches tall, age twenty-three. Born in Shelby County, Alabama. Married Margaret Ozley in Shelby County, Alabama, October 27, 1859.

Enlisted April 8, 1861; captured July 2, 1863 at Gettysburg; confined at Fort Delaware July 6, 1963; transferred October 13, 1863 to Point Lookout, Maryland where he died from Chronic Diarrhea and Scurvy in Ward 11, US General Hospital on February 1, 1865. He married Dicey Ballard on January 19, 1860 in Blount County. She was born December 19, 1840. Their son, Jefferson Davis McMurry was born January 29th, 1862 in Blount County, Alabama. McWILLIAMS, Richard Ervin (Private, Company B, 1^st Alabama Infantry Regiment, “Wilcox True Blues”), b. 1842, d. August 25, 1921, buried Camden Cemetery, Wilcox County, AL, his epitaph reads simply “Confederate Soldier”. He served throughout the War with 1^st AL Infantry, in Pensacola, FL, Island No. 10, Port Hudson, LA, Georgia campaign, and Franklin, TN. Believed captured and exchanged several times during War. A man of small stature, he entertained his children with stories of his Franklin, TN capture recalling being grabbed by “a big Yankee”, dragged over the breastworks and taken prisoner. Married to Amelia Coate, b. April 16, 1849, d. March 20, 1900, buried beside him in Camden. Children of R.E. and Amelia Coate McWilliams: Eleanor McWilliams Toms Curtis, Madison Coate McWilliams Ervin, Annie Ervin McWilliams Carr, Mabel McWilliams Barnes, R.
