James Eidson-9E25 (John , Edward , Edward , Edward ) was born in 1790 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. He died about 1864 in Barbour County, Alabama.

212. William Eidson-9E26 (John , Edward , Edward , Edward ) was born in 1793 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. He died about 1830.

Volume I, page 723-724
WILLIAM EIDSON, his given name only a guess, was the son of John and Patience Watson Eidson.
His parentage and his name could be in error, but this descendancy seems the only feasible conclusion. He was b. in SC, and if he was near the age of his wife, b. c 1800-04, he was b. c. 1800. Prior to the 1840's Indian-White relationships along the Georgia-Alabama line were somewhat unique. There were, in spite of talk to the contrary, voluminous records deposited in counties, in state files, and in private collections. Many of the restless settlers moving west--called "movers"--could scarcely help leaving some records along the way. (1) Among the records found was a Permit by the Cherokee Indians granting permission to certain men to hire men. Among these was a permit to Thomas McDaniel to hire one William Hitson. Another document listed the persons who had taken prescribed oath according to law and were permitted to continue thereby their residence in that part of the State of Georgia occupied by Cherokees. On this list was No. 92 William Hetson, a farmer with a wife and 5 children. This could be two different men or the two Williams could have been one and the same and the time element eliminates any other known William who migrated to AL. An 1830 census matching this family was not found in GA nor in SC. However, in 1840 Elizabeth Eidson (2) was recorded in Pike Co. with 3 sons and 1 dau. The Tract Book of Pike Co. records 16 Jan 1836, certificate #33813, 40 a. of land patented by Elizabeth Eidson in Twsp. 12 N, Range 22E SE1/4 of NE 1/4 Sec. 22. Obviously, Elizabeth's husband had d. by this time--probably c 1830. Elizabeth added to her holdings with Certif. No. 35862 for 39.92 a. 17 Mar 1841. In 1847, the three sons together, Abner, Emsley, and John, bought land in Pike Co. from Wm. Herrin (3) for $700.00. (4) The 11 Aug 1948 Elizabeth's son, Emsley Eidson, patented 79.65 a. of land in Pike Co. in Twsp. 12 N, Range 22E. East 1/2 of NW 1/4, in Sec. 32; the 31 Dec 1849, Certif. No. 38296, as Emsley "Hitson," he added 39.85 a. in Twsp. 12 N. Range 22, N.W. 1/4 of SE 14 Sec. 20. In the 1850 census, Elizabeth's family included sons Abner, 28, b. SC, Emsley, 26. b. SC, Epsey, 23. b. GA, John, 21, b. GA, and Henry, 5, b. AL. As will be revealed later, Epsey had m. Wm. Wood, and Henry was their son.
In 1857, in Bullock Co., AL, (5) Elizabeth, Emsley, and John Eidson sold their property in Pike Co. to James McClaney for $3,600.00. This was apparently in preparation for their move to MS. The 5 May 1859 Emsley Eidson of Pike Co., AL, bought, for $1,500,00, c 150 a. land in Clarke Co., MS, from Ezekial Hach; the sale was finalized in Dec.(6)
By 1860 Elizabeth, Emsley, and John Eidson, Epsy and William Wood were all living in Clarke
Co., MS., in the Beaverdam community, In 1979 Cecil Leroy Eidson, a grandson, then 78, and living with his dau. in Columbus, GA, was questioned by his daughter, Ann Wilson, who wrote: "I'm writing you for my father. He's getting old and the best he can remember his great grandfather's name was William Eidson. I've ask him on different days and he still says William. So its very possible that was his name." Elizabeth had apparently d. by 1870.(7)
(1) From the records of James M. Puckett, Jr. as published in the Georgia Genealogical Society Quarterly, Vol. III, Series 33, Mar 1967.
(2) One is tempted to think Eliz. would have been a Watson. There was an Abner Watson in Edgefield Co., SC. There were South Carolina Watsons in Pike Co., and one A.S. Watson was involved with John Eidson in a business transaction in Clarke Co., hrlS, D. Bk. J p. 204 in March of 1867.
(3) One wonders if this name might be Herring, a family closely associated with the other Eidsons in Barbour and Pike Co's., AL.
(4) Pike Co., AL, D. Bk. E p. 195.
(5) 1857 Bullock Co., AL, Bk. 1, p. 397; filed 25 Nov 1892.
(6) Clarke Co., MS, Dd. Bk. H p. 14.
(7) For research and data on this family we are indebted to Annette H West of Waynesboro, MS, Joan Trahan, Mobile, AL, and Thos. E. Wood, Pascagoula, MS.

William married Elizabeth before 1821 in South Carolina. Elizabeth was born about 1802 in South Carolina. She died before 1870.

Notes for ELIZABETH by Brett Eidson: 1860 Census Clarke Co., MS lists her as Elizabeth "IDSON" instead of Eidson. It has her as 56 years old on the day the census was done on July 28, 1860. The Edgefield Advertiser
30 Aug 1838
Died, on Thursday the 9th of August, Mr. John Eidson, after a painful illness of about four weeks, in the 56th year of his age. Mr. Eidson was a worthy citizen, and his death is sincerely regretted by a large circle of relatives and friends. Being for 12 or 15 years an orderly member of the Methodist Church, hundreds can bear testimony to the truth that he illustrated in his walk, the virtues and excellencies of the Christian religion. He died in the full triumph of faith in his Redeemer, leaving to his wife and nine children, 2 and his numerous friends, the great consolation that he has exchanged a world of sorrow and pain, for an eternity of happiness and glory. 223. Elizabeth Eidson-9E8 (James , Edward , Edward , Edward ) was born on 15 Jul 1795 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. She died on 16 Sep 1878 in LaGrange, Troupe County, Georgia.
Elizabeth married Larkin Norred Sr. son of Mullikin Norwood Jr. on 2 May 1818. Larkin was born1 on 10 Apr 1800 in Edgefield, South Carolina. He died on 27 Jun 1876 in LaGrange, Troupe County, Georgia.

ELIZABETH EIDSON, the dau. of James and Mary Humphrey(s) Eidson, was b. 15 Jul 1795 in Edgefield Co., SC. She m. 2 May 1818 LARKIN NORWOOD/NORRED, b. 10 Apr 1800. Descendants of this family have made many efforts to determine the parentage of Larkin and are still in doubt. All of the Eidson records found record his name as Norwood--including the public Newspaper notice as to the heirs of James Eidson when he died in 1846. As evidenced by the birth of their children, Larkin and Elizabeth had moved to AL c 1821 and settled in Roanoke in Randolph Co. which is adjacent to GA. However, Larkin d. 27 Jan 1876 in LaGrange in Troup Co., GA, which is located just across the Tallapoosa River which is the state line; Elizabeth d. there also 16 Sep 1878. Elizabeth was what has been callously called "a good producer," having fifteen healthy children, fourteen of whom lived to adulthood.
In 1979, Herbert L. Norred wrote:
"I now believe that Larkin was a son of Mullikin Norred, Jr.; but I cannot prove it. Mullikin Norred, Sr. and Jr. came to AL from Edgefield Co., SC about the same time that Larkin Norred did. Also, I have found that one of the girls of Mullikin Norred, Jr.'s family named a son Larkin, which indicates to me that my Larkin and Mullikin were related.
From the old 96 Dis SC Plat Book A is a list of all deeds under the name Norwood and gives the name, type of acres, waters, and the date:
"Cpt. John Norwood, citizen, 352 a. on Saludy Riv. 17 May 1784 adj. Robt. Anderson Esq, on both sides of South Fork of Saludy Riv.
"John Norwood listed as adjoining prop. of Mary Carswell, wid., Wollinoy Creek.
"John Norwood, Bounty, 200 a. on Woolinoy Creek, 8 Jul 1784 adj. John Vanderhorst and adj. Mary Carswell. John Norwood "Heir of Daniel Norwood Dec'd."
"John Norwood, Citizen, 275 a. on 23 Mile Ck., 12 Aug 1874 adj. Samuel Norwood.
"Samuel Norwood, Citizen 300 a. on 23 Mile Ck., 12 Aug 1874.

"Samuel Norwood Heir to Richard Norwood dec'd on the Bounty 200 a. of land situate on vacant land when surveyed by John Martin OS on 14th Day of Jan. last, as pr. Platt thereof Recorded this 4th of Feby 1785 Robert Anderson CS"
"Samuel Norwood was listed as adj. property of John Crump on Saludy Riv. 25 May 1785.
(Please note the spelling of the family name in the following deed. Norred is spelled three different ways in the same deed--Norid, Norred, and Norwood.)
"In the case of Mullikin NORID et al. vs. Wm. Moore: Mullikin NORWOOD, Jr.. and Mullikin NORED, Sr. of the state and Dis, aforesaid (SC Edgefield Dis.) ..sold to Wm. Moore tract of land containing 250 a. on the n. side of Big Creek being the land that Samuel NORED now lives on adj. land claimed by Walter Abney on the n. and westardly on land owned by Philip Kyser ("whose descendants lived nr. my ancestors in AL" wrote Herbert L. Norred) southwardly on lands of the estate of John Blalock dec'd ("his descendants also went to AL--H.L.N.) and on the south by lands claimed by the two Mullikin NOREDS, Big Creek being the dividing line. Dated 15 Mar, 1810. " (These two Mullikin Noreds are found in the 1820 census of Conecuh Co., AL.)
In Mar of 1977 Eleanor D. McSwain, a Norwood researcher from Macon, GA, wrote Herbert L. Norred:
"I feel that I should put "Dear Mr. Norwood" for I am more certain than ever that was your family name before it was changed!
"I note that your Larkin Norred was born in Edgefield Dist., SC in 1800 and that his father-inlaw called him Larkin NORWOOD. I have no information on him. You will have something of a problem for in the old 96th Dis. of SC there were a number of Norwoods who settled there. When the district was divided into counties--Laurens, Newberry, Abbeville, and Edgecombe (Edgefield!) among others. That put Norwoods in each of them. I have information on the earliest ones that arrived. Some were from Maryland, one from NC and one from VA, each stemming from a different branch of Norwoods. Your problem will be to find Larkin's father.
"The 1800 census of NC Edgecombe (sic) Co. had two Norwoods listed. One was Levi Norwood and the other Sarah Norwood. She had several members in her household I would presume she was a widow. Now the records of Edgecombe are intact and if I were you I would be sure to find all I could on those two persons as to whether they owned land, left an estate record. I do not seem to recall that either of them had a will.
"But in Edgefield you will have this problem. There was another family of Norwoods. Since I know about them I will give you brief information so you will not confuse the two lines. John Norwood of Halifax Co., NC, went to Edgefield Co. He had a brother Geo. Norwood who also went to 96th Dis. and he left a few descendants in Laurens Co. but all of them have not been traced. But the descendants of John Norwood of Edgefield have been traced. He was m. twice.First to 1) Mourning Harris and 2) to Nancy Bostick. He died about 1800 but did not leave a will. Before he died he made two deeds giving property to his children. The children of his first wife are named in one deed. They were: 1. Mary Amanda Norwood, b. c 1772; 2. Isham Norwood, b. c 1773, d. 1817; 3. Sarah Serena Norbood , b. 6 Jun 1775 and m. Allen Glover (1770-1840); 4. Williamson Norwood (1777-1848) who left a will in Edgefield Co.; 5. Nathaniel Norwood (1781-1823); 6. Elizabeth Norwood (b. 1783). The children of his second wife named in the second deed were Littleberry Bluford Norwood and Lavonia Norwood. I have information of the descendants of John and Mourning Norwood but none of the two children of John and Nancy Norwood.
"Samuel Norwood came very early to 96th Dis. and his land fell in Abbeville Co. He left his will there. He had a very large family. I have corresponded with many of his descendants and have many records on them. In the ones I have I do not find a Levi, Larkin or Preston Norwood.
"In the 1820 census there seem to be no Norwoods in Edgecombe (Edgefield!) but PRESTON NORWOOD, is living in Abbeville Co. He is one of your family for Larkin Norwood named a son Preston Norwood but he was not old enough to be in the 1820 Census.
"If I were you I would certainly try to place your Larkin Norwood for the Norwood Family is an ancient one and many lines can be traced in England before the time of William The Conqueror, for the Norwoods were a Saxon family. I have many records on them and it has been my good fortune to go to England three times and learn much of their history.have met a lady who was a Norwood before her marriage and through her 'hit the jack-pot.' I would be most interested in your progress for after you find the father of Larkin, hopefully I can place him in my records. -Sincerely, Eleanor D. Mc Swain"
Census notes and comments from Herbert L. Norred:
MULLIKIN NORWOOD is listed in the 1790 Fed. Census of Newberry Co., SC: 1 M 16+, 1 M -16, and 7 F. "This Mullikin is Mullikin Norred Sr. b. c 1760 and the 1 M -16 would be Mullikin Jr. b. 1774-1790.
In the 1810 Census of Edgefield, SC, Mullican NORWOOD (p. 073) is age 45+; Mullican NORWOOD, (p.053) is 26-45 years of age.
In the 1820 Census of Conecuh Co., AL, Mullikin NORID, Sr. household lists 1 M 21+ and 2 F 21 + (wife and a dau., all b. before 1799). In the same Co. is the household of Mullikin NORID, Jr. listing 1 M 21+, 2 M -21, 2 F 21+, and 3 F -21.
The 1830 AL Census lists: Samuel M. Norred in Morengo Co., James Norred in Conecuh Co., John Norred in Conecuh Co., Larkin Norred in Shelby Co., and Mullikin Norred in Conecuh Co. The Census indicates that there was a Mullikin Norred III in Wilcox Co. by 1840.

BOICE E. NORRED, b. 6 Apr 1819 in Edgefield Co., SC, was the son of Larkin and Elizabeth Eidson Norwood. His middle name, in all probability, was EIDSON after Elizabeth's brother, Boise Eidson. Boice E. Norred m. 1) NANCY MUSICK 26 Dec 1844 in Chambers Co., AL. They were divorced and he m. 2) LUCY G. CULLEN 2 Nov 1848, also in Chambers Co. His children are unknown at present.

JOSHUA L. NORRED, the son of Larkin and Elizabeth Eidson Norred, was b. 14 May 1834 in AL. He appears to have lived in Troup Co., GA. His g'g'g'son, William A. Woodham of LaGrange in Troupe Co., GA, wrote that Joshua's dau. Catherine Parzada Norredm. Wm. Hartwell Woodham in Jan. 1880, and that their third child was his father, Hessie Joshua Woodham. In 1991, Bill wrote again: "Just a couple of years ago my Mother's sister told me that she remembered my Father telling her when they were young that he said his Grandfather died sitting in a chair and that his wife, who was senile, saw he was dead and started to the backyard to ring the dinner bell to bring in help and when she got there she had forgotten what she had gone there for, and it was two days before some people came in and buried him.
"According to information at the Douglasville, GA, library Joshua L. Norred moved into the Fairplay Community around the year 1880.was unable to find him on the 1880 census of Randolph Co., AL or Heard Co., GA. My Grandfather William Hartwell Woodham married his daughter Catherine Parzada Norred on 4 Jan 1880, so he must have lived in one or the other counties at that time, as they were m. in Heard Co., and raised their family there. (Excuse me, the Fairplay Community is located about ten miles southwest of Douglasville, GA, which is the County seat of Douglas Co. Fairplay is right on the county line of Douglas and Carroll counties and it is hard to tell when you are in which county.)" Mr. Woodham, who was 79 in 1991, regretted that he had waited so long to look into the Norred family history. Joshua L. Norred m. Men of Mark in South Carolina
Washington, D.C., 1907
Volume I, page 100-102
J.C. Hemphill, Editor:
Eidson, John Daniel, farmer and merchant, was born in Edgefield, South Carolina, December 3 1845. His parents were James Russell and Caroline (Bouknight) Eidson. His father was highly esteemed for kindness and liberality and served his community as trial justice, school trustee, and captain of a company of militia.
In early life John Eidson was strong and well, His home was in the country, and, while he liked his books, he was fond of horses and of outdoor life. After he became large enough to help on the farm he had regular, but not excessive, tasks to perform. He attended the schools near his home until he was fifteen years of age, when the War between the States broke out and he entered the Confederate States army, in which he served for three years.
Returning from the war, he had no opportunity to continue his education, but commenced work as a farmer under the guidance of his father. In 1868 he taught school but a year later he gave up his position and became a merchant. In connection with the business of the store he also carried on the work of farming, and he has been continuously engaged in these lines until the present time. Some years ago he added brokerage to his other interests, and it
has grown to considerable importance. He owns and controls two four-gin outfits, the Munger & Smith systems (up-to-date in every respect); one in the town of Johnston, and the other about one mile east of that place. He is also proprietor of the Johnston Roller Flour mills, located in the town of Johnston, and one of the largest flour mill properties in the state. His natural ability, together with close application to business and strictly honest dealing, has brought him great success and given him an enviable reputation. In January, 1907, he was elected president of the Bank of Johnston, a strong financial institution.
He has been warden and intendant of his home town (Johnston), and president of the Johnston Educational Joint Stock company. He is a member of the Masonic order, a past dictator in the Knights of Honor, and a past chancellor commander in the Knights of
Pythias. In politics he has not been an active worker, and has never held or sought public office, but he votes regularly with the Democratic party. His religious connection is with the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in which he is an active and efficient worker, and has held the offices of steward and district steward.
In estimating the relative strength of various influences which have been helpful in his efforts to win success, he places contact with men in active life first of all. As in boyhood days, he still enjoys getting out of doors, and has a marked taste for fine horses, of which he keeps several at his farm. For recreation, he chooses traveling, and by this means he has become acquainted with a large section of the country.
Mr. Eidson is interested in all the great movements of the day, and especially those which tend to the betterment of the conditions under which we live. He believes that righteousness should be both preached and practiced, and in response to a request that
he would make some suggestions regarding the habits, methods, and principles which in his opinion will help the youthful readers of his biography to attain success, he says: "Young men should strive to be independent by seeking positions of usefulness, honestly performing duty, never shirking, and never using intoxicating liQuors or tobacco in any form."
On December 18, 1873, Mr. Eidson was married to Miss Anna Herbert. Of their four children, three are living in 1907,
The postoffice address is Johnston, Edgefield county, South Carolina.

John married Anna C. Herbert on 18 Dec 1873. Anna was born on 15 Feb 1852 in Newberry County, South Carolina. She died on 11 Nov 1903 in Johnston, Edgefield County, South Carolinav. She was buried in Mt. of Olives Cemetery, Edgefield County, South Carolina.
They had the following children:

+3189FiCarrie Tabitha Eidson-12E41
+3190MiiOlin Marvin Eidson-12E42
+3191MiiiHerbert Glenn Eidson Sr.-12E43
