Charles Allen McClain born in 1886 Ramer, Montgomery County, Alabama to Elizabeth Broadway and Josiah Marion McClain, married Lorena Emma Bozeman in Ramer.
Charles served in WWI and they had several children with no grandsons to carry on the family name. However, Lorena's Bible indicates their son Joe had a son named James .
Charlie's death certificate is all wrong, obviously prepared by someone who "knew nothing"; it indicates that Lorena was his mother and that Charlie had no military background and his date of birth is wrong; but this occurs more often than people realize when folks jump in and try to help a family during their time of need;Charlie was a farmer who also worked for the church, often making caskets for the needy which was often necessary due to the epidemics.
They lived on Hickory Grove in Ramer before moving to the city of Montgomery. He is buried at Dublin Church of Christ Cemetery, by his daughter Lillie and the woods all around it now cover many of the older graves and his headstone cannot be found.
Charles is found on the 1910 census with his mother and her second husband, along with his wife Lorena and baby Lillie but not on the 1920 nor 1930 census records. His wife and other children are buried at Memorial Cemetery.
His daughter Alice is my connection to this line and she has no headstone at Memorial Cemetery. Alice died at the age of 19 while my mother, Anne Alice Carter, was only 2 years old and so she was raised by Charlie and Lorena.
Memorial Cemetery came from land donated by Lorena's Uncle Bob Bozeman which is located at the end of Bozeman Drive.
Alice had married Cecil Carter who also died young.
