Cecil Carter Jr.

Grandfather Cecil Earl Fenn Carter knew his father's family was in Montgomery Alabama in 1930 and traveled to be with them after his Honorable Discharge from the Army.  His death certificate confirms that his parents were Anna Stone and Wm F Fenn of Alabama. The certificate is witnessed by his brother Emmett. It seems their mother had a child each year after her marriage in 1893. His parents had divorced soon after his birth and she took the baby with her back to Macon GA to join her parents, Mary Ann Hendrick and Augustus  Marvin Stone around 1901.

In Alabama  Cecil  met and married Emilie Alice McClain and had three children. Alice died giving birth to the third child, at the young age of 19,  and our Grandfather died soon afterwards in 1939.

The children were taken in by the parents of Alice and knew very little about their father's family.  Parents of Alice were Lorena Emma Bozeman and Charles Allen McClain.

BACK TO THE FAMILY

Sadly we will never know if Cecil's "adopted" Carter father was his blood kin nor if he is related to my husband's great great grandfather Thomas Randolph Carter.

Cecil's brother Frank Fenn, called him a half-brother and also called their older sister, Carrie, a half-sister. Was it true or just a bitter brother talking to his children. I met two of those children, Bob and Martha, and that was their story.

Cecil claimed to be Cherokee and Carrie/ Carro/ Carolyn Lou/ lived and died in Indian Nation, Oklahoma.
