A Book Titled "The Pension Lists Of 1792-1795
Page 117 is in Section II of the book. Here is what the compiler (Murtie June
Clark) says about Section II.
" Section II is based on a report forwarded to the Senate by the Secretary
of the Treasury of all claims adjusted and allowed by the Treasury Department
for which certificates of debt had been issued to persons whose claims, made
prior to 1792, had been barred owing to their failure to file by established
deadlines.
This report supplements the well-known "Register of the Certificates Issued by
John Pierce, Esquire, Paymaster General and Commissioner of Army Accounts for
the United States, to Officers and Soldiers of the continental Army Under Act
of July 4, 1783," popularly known as Pierce's Register (repr. Genealogical
Publishing Co., 1973). As given here, this report contains the name of the
soldier, his branch of service, the date, number and type of certificate, the
date from which interest had accrued, and the amount. Presumably only a
fraction of the entries are for arrears of invalid pensions, but as the list of
claims also includes the names of South Carolina soldiers, as well as marines
and militiamen excluded from Pierce's Register, its place in this present work
can hardly be questioned.
"
A statement of all the claims which have been adjusted and allowed at the
Treasury Department, and for which certificates of registered debt issued, in
virtue of a law entitled "An act providing for the settlement of claims of
person under particular circumstances barred by limitations heretofore
established," passed on the 27th of March 1792.
