Peter Edward Bozeman

Bozeman families young and old gathered at Hills Chapel Church, armed with stories, cameras, documents and rakes as they ventured into the many acres of woods behind the church, where Peter Bozeman born 1834 was buried.

One of our elder cousins said this wooded burial place once held many Bozeman headstones but only a few were uncovered on this day.

Apparently many years ago someone searched for Peter's grave and had a second stone placed perhaps because the original stone had fallen over and was covered by debris.

Both were cleaned and photographed.

Peter's wife was Nancy Jane Anderson. Nancy's grandmother was Hester Doty of North Carolina who connects us directly to Edward Doty of the Mayflower and the first Thanksgiving in America. Her lineage also gives us several other soldiers in our lineage who had served in the American Revolution.

There is a strong possibility that Peter Edward's mother was a Martha Hill and another possibility that he buried his mother in that cemetery.

Peter's son John is buried across the road from the church in a well kept cemetery. John's wife Alice Lorena Stephens was buried near Peter and had a similar headstone with a clover design at the top. Alice had died in 1894 soon after birthing little John. Alice had two daughters, Lorena and Ethel born about 1892 - 1893. Lorena had grown up to marry Charlie McClain while Ethel married Jason Gibson, so there were many surnames gathered on this day to represent their branch of our family tree.

Bozeman - Hill Cemetery is what I will call this place from now on assuming this was once his land, his farm, and where my great great grandfather John grew up and where my great granny Lorena was also born and raised.

Peter had served in the Civil War and was the son of William Henry and Martha Bozeman of Hope Hull.

William's father Peter Bozeman had served in the American Revolution along with his brothers and his father Mordecai.

Many thanks to my cousins for sharing this day with me and extra hugs to my beautiful daughter for getting me there. The Dublin/ Ramer area is such a quiet peaceful community, in Montgomery County, AL
