Probate records of Mary Grant, widow of Joshua Grant, Jr.


[Record 1] Somerset Co. Registry of Probate, Skowhegan, ME.

Estate of Mary Grant, dec'd. Pet'n for & appt. of adm: & inventory. To the Hon. David White, Judge of Probate of the County of Somerset. Respectfully represents the undersigned that Mary Grant, late of Mercer, in said County, died at said Mercer in October 1858 [1857?], leaving a small amount of money and personal property, also a claim on her mother's estate amounting in the whole to more than one hundred and fifty dollars; which is necessary to be administrated; that she left no sons who are residents of this state; that his wife is a daughter of said deceased; that therefore he has a lawful right to administer said estate and prays that he may be appointed to that trust. April 6, 1858. Wm. Harlow

Somerset Co. At a court of Probate held at Norridgewock, within and for said county, on the first Tuesday of April, A.D. 1858. On the written petition, Ordered and Decreed, that the said William Harlow be and [-] hereby is appointed administrator of the estate of said deceased, he giving bond in the sum of three hundred dollars, with surieties satisfactory to this court and therefore a letter to issue to him pursuant to law. William Harlow, administrator of the estate of Mary Grant, late of Mercer, in said County, dec'd [- -] that the within is a true and perfect inventory of all the estate of said deceased that has come into his hands and possession; and that if anything further shall hereafter come into his hands and possession, he will give it into the Probate office to be of record herewith. Estate of Mary Grant, dec'd. Inventory & 1st Acct of Adm. To the Hon. Judge of Probate of the County of Somerset. Inventory of the estate of Mary Grant dec'd & first acct. An inventory of the estate of Mary Grant late of Mercer in said county, widow, dec'd intestate and first account of William Harlow, administrator on the estate of said dec'd. The said accountant charges himself with an inventory of the personal estate of said dec'd and assets as follows to wit:

2 Div. of estate of Susannah Whitehouse of S. Whitehouse, admr.134.00
3 Old bed, bedding, towels and table cloths valued at8.00
4 Old table & chairs 2- 4 pieces iron ware 1.00, crockery 1.004.00
5 Wearing apparel [-], old dishes &c valued at $12 to be distributed
6 Rec'd for share of goods in [-] Store16.00

And pay & allowance of the following charges, vis.,

Somerset Co. At a Court of Probate holden at Norridgewock on the first Tuesday of June, A.D. 1858. William Harlow administrator of the estate of Mary Grant late of Mercer in said County, deceased, made oath that the above is a true and perfect inventory of all the estate of said deceased that has come to his house and possession; and that if anything further shall hereafter come into his hands and possession, he will give it into the Probate Office to be of record herewith. Also, that he has given notice of his appointment by posting up notices at two public places in the town of Mercer. Also, said administrator having made oath that the above account by him signed is just and true, and due notice having been given, and said account having been examined by me and compared with the vouchers and found correct, I do therefore Decree that the same be allowed and received. I do further Decree that the balance of said account be distributed to the five following heirs, vis. Hannah Harlow, Joshua Grant, Jr., Mary Glover, James Grant and Andrew Grant to each $32.79

[Record 6] Order of Distribution

State of Maine, Somerset, &&. At a court of Probate, held in Norridgewock, within and for said county on the first Tuesday of June, A.D. 1858. Whereas William Harlow, administrator of the estate of Mary Grant, late of Mercer, in said county, deceased, has this day settled his final account of administration of said estate, on which a balance of one hundred & sixty three dollars and ninety-five cents remains in his hands which ought to be distributed according to law. I do therefore Decree that the said administrator distribute the same as follows, vis.
