22. Christopher Y. "C. Y." THOMAS^14,46,47,48 was born on 24 March 1818 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.⁴⁶ He died on 11 February 1879 in Martinsville, Henry County, Virginia.⁴⁹

1850 Census, Henry Co. Christopher Thomas lived alone, age 30, a Lawyer.

1860 Census, Henry Co VA. Christopher Y. Thomas, age 40. Mary A. Thomas age 25, and Sterling age 1. Christopher's occupation is that of Lawyer.

1870, Henry Co, Martinsville Township. Listed as age 52. a Lawyer. Mary A., age 36, Keeping House. Sterling age 14, Nancy 12, John 10, Jane 6, Kate 4 and Frank 2. [Sterling was only age 1 in 1860 so he has aged a couple of extra years; Nancy was not listed in 1860, perhaps born that year after the census cut-off date.
Also living in the household were: 11 year old Martha Barber listed as domestic servant; Robert Hairson, a 24 year old Black man doing Farm labour, Wesley Thomas, age 18 and Aron Thomas age 13, both mulattos doing Farm labor.
Faith Thomas, age 8, was listed after these others. The 1880 census reveals she was one of the children, apparently almost forgotten.

THOMAS, Christopher Yancy, (1818 - 1879)
THOMAS, Christopher Yancy, a Representative from Virginia; born in Pittsylvania County, Va., March 24, 1818; attended the common schools, and was graduated from a private academy in 1838; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1844 and commenced practice in Martinsville, Henry County, Va.; served in the State senate 1860-1864; member of the commission to settle the boundary line between Virginia and North Carolina; treasurer of Henry County; prosecuting attorney for Henry County; member of the State constitutional convention in 1868; elected to the State house of delegates in 1869; successfully contested as a Republican the election of Alexander M. Davis to the Forty-third Congress and served from March 5, 1874, to March 3, 1875; unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1874 to the Forty-fourth Congress; resumed the practice of law; died in Martinsville, Va., February 11, 1879; interment in the family cemetery at Leatherwood, Henry County, Va.

Christopher Y. "C. Y." THOMAS and Mary Anne REAMY were married.¹⁴ Mary Anne REAMY^14,49 was born on 15 June 1834.^47,50 She died in 1910.⁵⁰

Mary Anne's father was Col. Daniel Reamy of Henry Co VA.

1880 Census. Mary A. Thomas was now head of household. Age 45. Children at home included Sterling, Hope, Faith, Jane, Kath, Frank, and Susan who was born 1871. Also living with the family was Thomas G. Penn, a dry goods merchant, age 35 and Elizabeth Penn, age 14, likely his daughter, at school. Susan Hardie, age 16, was also at school. Ruth Sheffield, a Black lady, age 35, listed as Domestic Servant. All born in Virginia.

52	i.	Lyne Starling THOMAS14,49,50 was born about 1859 in Henry County, Virginia.46,47,49 George Thomas has some correspondence from L. Starling in 1913. Said to be the eldest son. Prepared for the practice of law but seems not to have been a lawyer. Married Elizabeth Sheffield, daughter of William Sheffield and had two daughters, Mary Reamy and Katherine, and a son Archie. In 1880, "Sturling" was listed as a Journalist. His age this year agrees with the 1860 census.
53	ii.	Nancy/Hope THOMAS47,49 was born about 1860 in Henry County, Virginia.47,49 In 1870, the child "age 12" was listed as Nancy. Ages were exaggerated somewhat in this census. There had been no daughter born by 1860. In 1880 there was a daughter Hope, age 19, who would appear to be the child listed as Nancy in 1870.
54	iii.	John Watkins THOMAS14,47 was born about 1861 in Henry County, Virginia.47,49 Died as a minor according to his brother Starling.
55	iv.	Faith THOMAS47,49,50 was born in 1865 in Henry County, Virginia.47,49 Faith's married name was Parrott.
