Muse appointed guardian of Philip Thomas, Orphan of Philip Thomas dec'd, in place of William A. Thomas. Bond of $16,000. [When did William A., his nephew but who is older, become his Guardian? Philip is just months from reaching age 21.] 16 Dec 1850 Pittsy CR 41, p.57 Account of Wm A. Thomas, Guardian of Philip Thomas, received & recorded. [Probably the final accounting.] There is a Philip Thomas still in Pittsylvania Co Census in 1850 - He was age 20, a Clerk, living with Henry & Elizabeth ?Lukas and family. Marriage: Philip Thomas, 21 to Mary Ann Dickenson, 18 on 15 Oct 1851. Henry L. Muse, guardian of Philip. father of the bride, Griffith Dickenson. Wit: Joab Oakes & Wm C. Tate, by Rev. Samuel Spotts. 1860, Whitmell P.O. in the Southern District of Pittsylvania Co: Philip Thomas age 29, Farmer, $9000 Real Estate Value, $25,000 Personal Property [the Slave Schedule shows a total of 34 slaves]. Mary age 26. Flora A. 8 and Griffeth 7, both attending school. William A. 5, Ann E. 2, and a "Babe" age 5 months. 1870, 3rd Ward, City of Atlanta, Fulton Co GA. Philip Thomas age 39, carpenter, born in Virgina. Annie age 12, Lelia age 10, Philip 6 and Roser 3 [male child]. Phillip probably died before the 1880 census. I believe I found two of his children in Kansas. I may have found young Phillip in the 1880 Census living with his married sister Flora. Sedgwick, Harvey Co, Kansas, Hh 46. E. D. Philip Thomas, brother-in-law, age 16, b. VA, at school Philip THOMAS and Mary Ann DICKINSON were married on 15 October 1851 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Mary Ann DICKINSON37 was born in 1834 in Virginia.36 She died before 1870. Presumably Mary Ann died between the birth of the son Roser and the 1870 census.
