Timothy STAMPS1,26,27,28 was born on 19 January 1779 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.2 He died before 21 October 1867 at the age of 88 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.2 Married Leah Wilson 19 Dec 1803, Pittsylvania Co VA. She was the daughter of John Wilson who gave his consent. He married a 2nd time - The Hull papers state that she was Polly Carter, widow of William Carter and they married 30 Dec 1811. Polly had a daughter Elizabeth by William Carter. The Diary of Rev. Elias Dodson states that Timothy Stamps also married the widow Mary Hobson sometime after 1860, but she did not survive him. Timothy Stamps lived next to his brother William & Thomas, between Ringgold and Sutherlin. Their brother John Jr was just over the stateline in Caswell Co NC. 1830 Census. Timothy age 50-60. Wife 40-50. 1 son 5-10, 1 son 10-15, 1son 15-20. 16 slaves. Timothy is found living alone in the 1850 Census, age 72. Enumerated between Jackson Carter, age 34 and family and Spiers & Lydia Walters [his sister]. The Will of Timothy Stamps is dated 19 Jan 1860. He left slaves to the children of his deceased daughters Ann Conway and Jane Wilcox. [There is no mention of daughter Martha who may have died without issue.] The rest of his property to be divided in three equal parts among sons John H., Timothy H., and the children of his deceased son Benjamin H. [William & Drucilla]. The will was proved 21 Oct 1867 in Pittsylvania Co. Lived between Ringgold & Sutherin, Pittsylvania Co VA. Timothy STAMPS and Leah WILSON were married on 19 December 1803 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.28 Leah WILSON, daughter of John WILSON, died before December 1811.28 Leah and Timothy are believe to have had three children: Leah died sometime between the birth of Jane in early 1809 and December of 1811 when Timothy remarried. Timothy STAMPS and Mary "Polly" STAMPS were married on 30 December 1811.1 Mary "Polly" STAMPS2, daughter of William STAMPS and Ellinor BRENT, was born on 24 April 1783.28 She died on 7 May 1850 at the age of 67.28 Mary was the daughter of William Stamps who died 1763 in Fauquier Co and his wife Ellinor Brent. William was the son of William Stamps who died before Apr 1746 and his wife Mary Byrd. Timothy and Mary were 1st cousins once removed. [The above is how this is given in the Stamps database. There is obviously a problem with the information as Mary's birth is given as 1783 and this fits well with her marriage date, etc. However, her supposed father had already been dead for 20 years by 1783 unless that information is wrong. She was also born 20 years after Catherine & James whose births were recorded by the Rev. Douglas in Goochland Co VA.
