Elizabeth POINDEXTER and William PAYNE were married about 1720. William PAYNE⁵⁷ was born in 1685 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He died before 1735 at the age of 50 in Hanover County, Virginia.

Nealon Agee's Poindexter Family History gives the parents of William Payne as John Payne & Elizabeth Johnston while researcher David Payne states that William was a son of John Payne & Elizabeth Murphy.

Hanover Co VA Court Records, 4 Sep 1735. There is an administrative bond for Rule Shrewsbury & Elizabeth Shrewsbury as administrators of the estate of William Payne, deceased.

The Poindexter Family History lists only two sons for Elizabeth & William Payne. Thomas & William, while an email of David Payne's research shows three sons: Thomas, John & William.

Thomas "Trader" PAYNE⁵⁷ was born on 21 October 1721 in Hanover County, Virginia.⁵⁷ He died about 1811 at the age of 90 in Pendleton District, South Carolina.
Thomas is said to be Trader Payne, one of the earliest settlers in Northeast GA which became Franklin County. He is said to have married first an American Indian and 2nd Annika Ayers.

John PAYNE was born about 1722. He died in 1781 at the age of 59 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.
The Will of John Payne is on p.122-123 of the Pittsylvania Co Will Book for years 1777-1820.
Dated 4 Nov 1780; Probate 15 May 1781.
Names sons William, Samuel, Josiah, Charles, Reuben, John. Daughters Rhoda & Mary Payne each one shilling. Wife to have use of all moveable estate; at her death or remarriage, the estate to be sold & the money divided between John & Charles Payne & the children of my last marriage.

William PAYNE⁵⁸ was born about 1725.⁵⁸ He died in 1771 at the age of 46.⁵⁸
William married Ruth Lewis.
His will is in Will Book 0, 1752-1773, Halifax Co VA, p.316
Plantation where living to wife Ruth, then to fall to youngest son Daniel. William Coughlin, land he now lives on & 48 acres to be added. William Payne, son of John, the 101 acres where he lives. Deed to John Owen for land I sold him when he pays 50 #'s. All other lands & Entrys to son Poindexter Payne. All moveable estate to wife to distribute to my daughters Anne, Mary & Milly. Executor: Thomas Payne & Poindexter Payne

Nathaniel SHREWSBERRY² was born about 1739 in Hanover County, Virginia.⁵⁹ He died in 1825 at the age of 86 in Kentucky.⁶⁰ Nathaniel's first wife's name is known. He married 2nd to Mary Ellis Mattox who was the mother of at least nine of ten known children. Both Nathaniel & his brother Samuel were Baptist ministers who supported the Revolution. Married Mary Ellis. At least one descendant line went from Hanover Co VA to Garrard Co KY, then Crawford Co AR and on to Kansas. Samuel SHREWSBERRY^2,60 was born about 1740.⁶⁰ He died on 2 April 1782 at the age of 42 in Bedford County, Virginia.⁶⁰ Samuel married Elizabeth Dabney.
