The record of the organization of the First Baptist Church of Russellville on Nov. 24, 1818 merely gives the names of the ten who were the first membership and who constituted the first organization; no record in the old minutes state as to where and what church the ten had received their letters of dismissal. The history of Union Church (Now New Union) says "In April, 1818 another colony of ten was dismissed to form the Baptist Church in Russellville." On November 24th 1818 "the following members of the church met at the Meeting House - To wit:

In the 1850 Census both John and Samuel gave their age as 55 which would indicate a birth year of 1795 rather than 1799 as in the Poindexter book. John listed with Elizabeth, Susan, age 21, Marian age 9 and Marinda age 7. Living in Todd Co.

John C. POINDEXTER and Elizabeth MURPHY were married on 13 November 1832 in Todd County, Kentucky.83 Elizabeth MURPHY was born about 1813 in Kentucky.238

Elizabeth may have been here in 1860:
By 1860, Todd Co KY, Elizabeth Poindexter age 16 [who must surely be Marinda "B" from 1850] and Lawson Poindexter, age 10, were living with Wells Fowler, a silversmith who was age 70 and E. Fowler, age 48 [probably Elizabeth Murphy Poindexter]. Elizabeth & Lawson were both listed as born "TN" as was E. Fowler - they were simply dittoed from her place of birth.

By 1870, Elizabeth Murphy was again going by the name of Elizabeth Poindexter.
1870, Todd Co KY, Trenton Precinct:
Elizabeth Poindexter, age 58, b. TN. Maranda "B" age 26, b. KY, Richard H [? name hard to read] age 4, and William L. age 20.
My note: I would think the 4-year-old belongs to Maranda - her mother is too old and he was listed following her name - only the head of household had a surname written.

John C. POINDEXTER and Elizabeth MURPHY had the following children:

440

i.

Mary P. POINDEXTER was born on 7 September 1834 in Logan County, Kentucky.150 She died on 9 August 1835 at the age of 0 in Logan County, Kentucky.150

Dolphin B. POINDEXTER was born on 23 November 1835 in Logan County, Kentucky.150 He died on 4 July 1841 at the age of 5 in Logan County, Kentucky.150

iii.

Marian W. POINDEXTER was born in 1841 in Kentucky.238

443

iv.

Marinda B. POINDEXTER was born in 1843 in Kentucky.238

Marinda had the middle initial "B" in 1850, but I suspect this should have been an "E" and her middle name was Elizabeth:

By 1860, Todd Co KY, Elizabeth Poindexter age 16 [who must surely be Marinda "B" from 1850] and Lawson Poindexter, age 10, were living with Wells Fowler, a silversmith who was age 70 and E. Fowler, age 48. Elizabeth & Lawson were both listed as born "TN" as was E. Fowler - they were simply dittoed from her place of birth. The Fowlers were not in the 1850 census in Todd Co.

1880, Todd Co KY, Trenton Precinct:
Lawson Poindexter, age 29, b. KY, parents b. VA; Henrie, age 24, wife, b. KY, parents b. VA
Mamie, age 5; Etta age 3, Ned age 1, and Dicke, age 13, a nephew [presumably Richard H. the 4-year-old in 1870]

William Lawson married [1] Henrie N. Childs, b. 13 Nov 1855, d. 9 Oct 1883, and [2] on 7 Sep 1866 in Lincoln Co TN [this date is an error - much surely by 1888 since in 1880 Henrie was listed with Lawon], Sallie G. Mims, b. 3 Oct 1863, d. 25 Jun 1914.
