1850 Census. Dist 2, Union Co, Illinois, p.216, Hh 1006
A daughter Rachel, b. about 1830 between James and John, is shown in databases - she married in 1849 so wouldn't have been in the 1850 census with the family.
Other Nortons counted on the same page in this 1850 census included Hiram, age 33, born in Indiana, and his family; and John Norton, age 64, b. TN with wife Mary, age 62, b. KY. I would think John & Mary Norton may have been Joseph's parents.
In 1860, the family was in Kansas. Washington Twp, Anderson Co, Post Office Garnett, Hh 361.
25 Jul 1865 Kansas State Census. Washington Twp, Anderson, KS. P.O. Hyatt, Hh 316
Apparently Sophia died before 1870. Joseph Norton was living alone in Anderson Co, Kansas, age 64, b. Ohio. A FindAGrave entry states she died in 1867 and is buried Springfield Cemetery, Garnett, Anderson Co, Kansas.
FindAGrave page states that Joseph was the son of John and Mary Norton.
