The family moved to Texas by 1858 as evidenced by the following article:
Anderson Co Texas Genealogical Society <>
"The site of the rugged old BRUSHY CREEK ARBOR, built in a grove of beautiful native trees within a few steps of a native spring, approximately 12 miles north of Palestine near the junction of farm roads 315 and 837, deserves special mention as it has been the scene of an annual homecoming for the last 126 years since its inception in 1870. The Arbor was built by the following individuals: the brothers James D. ELROD, Benjamin L. ELROD, John Calhoun ELROD, and George McDuffie ELROD who came from South Carolina before 1860, Moses H. ADDINGTON from Georgia by 1857, Abner CARROLL from South Carolina, Billy BELL from Mississippi c1856, Daniel HENDERSON from Mississippi, William "Billy" HERRINGTON from Mississippi c1851, Chesley MURPHY from South Carolina by 1858, Dr. Charles MURPHY from South Carolina, John EVANS from Tennessee, Tom BROWN, Will BROWN, Leander Lusk EVANS from Tennessee, Samuel EVANS, Mr. WEBB, Mr. THORNAL, Mr. RHODES, Capt. James EASTLAND from Alabama before 1857, Elisha HOLLAND from South Carolina before 1860, Chesley PICKLE from South Carolina, and John A. DAVIS. Descendants of these pioneer BRUSHY CREEK families, along with descendants of other pioneer families such as BERRY, CELY, EMERSON, MITCHELL, MORROW, MURPHY, PICKLE, ROGERS, TERRELL, WADDELL, WELBORN and others, gather for an all day meeting on LABOR DAY weekend in the old Arbor once a year to listen to the speaking, and take part in an old fashioned dinner on the grounds."

I find no Fannies of marriageable age in the 1880 census in Anderson Co TX where many of the Murphys were living, but the following appeared in Anderson Co SC

Chesley MURPHY and Mary Caroline MOORE were married on 20 March 1849. Mary Caroline MOORE, daughter of Thomas MOORE and Frances [MOORE], was born on 18 November 1830 in Tennessee.47 She died on 28 December 1903 at the age of 73 in Anderson County, Texas.

For some unknown reason, there is a double entry on FindAGrave. The one for Olive Branch Cemetery, Memorial# 23473717, has a picture of a joint monument with her husband and her name is on it. The other entry is in Pisgah Cemetery with no photograph, Memorial# 60402541. Both entries claim the same dates and parents, but the one at Pisgah is not linked to her husband and children.

Chesley MURPHY and Mary Caroline MOORE had the following children:

Elizabeth MURPHY66 was born in 1850 in South Carolina. I believe this is the Sarah Elizabeth who married James M. Emerson. In 1880, Emerson was 34 years old, born in Arkansas. Elizabeth was 29 and born in SC. Children included:
Laura J. age 8, Carrie M. age 6, Chesley R. age 4, and Charles K. age 2. Her uncle Charles Murphy had lived with the family and he made bequests to Chesley's children.

Thomas MURPHY67 was born in 1852 in South Carolina. Thomas M. Murphey, age 28, was living in Anderson Co TX in 1880. I'm sure he was likely this man. This appears to be the only child of Chesley that their Uncle Charles Murphy did not remember in his will.

Charity A. F. MURPHY was born on 27 April 1855. She died on 14 November 1857 at the age of 2 in Anderson County, Texas.

Emily MURPHY43 was born in 1858 in Texas. I believe Emily married her cousin Clark Richardson who was a physician. In 1880 Clark was age 31; Emily was 21. Their only child was Noah, age 1. Her brother, Jeff Richardson, was also living with them, working on the farm.

Mary Ida MURPHY was born on 12 February 1868 in Anderson County, Texas. She died on 2 September 1872 at the age of 4 in Anderson County, Texas. Ida probably died as a child as she does not show up in the 1880 Census.
