Sixth Generation

146. William WARREN160 was born in 1837 in Missouri.22,161 He died about 1864 at the age of 27.

William M. Warren, age 13, was living with William & Elizabeth Brown in Newton Co MO, 1850 Census. He also appears to be the male child under 5 living with them in Searcy Co AR in 1840. In 1860, William and Elizabeth had an 8 month old girl - Nancy.

The Warren descendants have a tradition that William died of smallpox during the Civil War. Said to be buried at Rocky Comfort, but if so his grave is unmarked. His wife Elizabeth was married to John Bunch in July of 1867.

Here is the biography for this William Warren from The History of McDonald County, Missouri, 1888.
William Warren, a well-to-do farmer of McDonald County, MO., was born near Nashville, in Robertson County, Tenn., on Dec 16, 1825. He is a son of Sebert Warren, a native of Virginia, who was born near Richmond in 1790. The latter was a soldier in the War of 1812, fighting under Jackson at the battle of New Orleans. He left the "Old Dominion" and removed to Polk Co, Mo. in 1851. It was here that he passed away in 1853, after which his widow removed to Mercer County, Mo. in 1854. Thence she went to Marion County, Ill, in 1864, where she died two years later, in 1866. William Warren attended the subscription schools of his native county, and came with his parents to Missouri. He also removed to Illinois with his mother, remaining with her until her death. In the fall of the following year, he settled where he now resides, in Pineville Township. He devotes his time to agricultural pursuits and stock raising, owning a fine farm of 240 acres. On March 14, 1861, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Agnes M. Cross, a daughter of James Poague, and to them have been born seven children, of whom four, Louis, Rosetta, Charles Wesley and Hessie are living. One son, James R., died just after he had reached his majority. Mrs. Warren and her daughter, Rosetta, are consistent members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.

William WARREN and Elizabeth DABBS were married.161 Elizabeth DABBS10,84,160,162,163, daughter of James DABBS and Martha [DABBS], was born in 1836 in Tennessee.161,164 She died on 26 May 1902 at the age of 66.160

The surname of the wife Elizabeth was provided by researchers of the Warren family. Roy David's notes included her surname, birth place as Tennessee, birth and death dates, and brothers & sisters as Emeline, Martha, Milton, and John Dabbs. [A John Dabbs married Elizabeth Jones, daughter of Oliver Jones. He was also born in TN abt 1830 according to census records. A Milton B. Dabbs, born about 1845 in TN is in the 1880 McDonald Co MO census, living next door to Pinckney Anderson, whose son married Elizabeth's daughter Nancy.]

1850 Census, Perry Co TN, p.156a, Household 460:
James Dabbs, age 45, b. SC; Martha age 42, b. VA
John C. age 20; Nancy H. age 18; James M. age 16; Elizabeth age 14; Mary age 12; Martha age 10; Lucinda age 8; Milton N. age 6 and Gideon age 4.
[This would appear to be the family of Elizabeth. Although there were many other Dabbs families in Perry Co that year, none other have an Elizabeth of this age with siblings of similar names. The family of John D. Bunch with his 1st wife is found on the previous page.]

1870 Census, McDonald Co , Richwood Twp. John Bunch, age 66, b. TN, Elizabeth age 38, Letsa 27, Mary A.24 and Louisa P.13 [John Bunch's children from an earlier marriage], John age 2, Margaret age 4 month [Elizabeth's children], Nancy J. Warren 10 and Martha Warren 8 [Elizabeth's children by William Warren]

1876 MO State Census, McDonald Co. Elizabeth Bunch age 39, Nancy Jane Warren 17, Martha Ann Warren 15, John Davidson Bunch 8, Margaret Bunch 6, Georgie Allis Bunch 4. Apparently John Bunch was now deceased.

In 1880, Elizabeth seems to be missing from the Census. Her children were living with a woman named Nancy Anderson, age 41, born in TN. Nancy had married William Washington Anderson and was living in Benton Co, AR in Walnut Twp. Father-in-law Pinckney Anderson lived next door to the above Nancy in Newton Co MO. The children living with Nancy were Martha A. age 18, John D. Bunch 11, Margaret J. 10, G. Alice 8. They are listed as daughters and son of "Nancy Anderson". Elizabeth Dabbs Warren Bunch would be about 42 this year - I think in transcribing the previous Anderson family, etc. the census enumerator misunderstood the lady's name or someone gave it to him wrong. I believe this really should have been Elizabeth Bunch. There is also a boarder in the household - Henry Russell, age 25, b. TN.

Here is Pinckney Anderson's household in 1880. Pinckney, age 54, b. AR, Sarah E., daughter, age 21 and Nancy E., dau, age 15. Both girls also born in AR. Pinckney's Nancy is the last listing on page 262B; "Nancy Anderson" age 41 is the first listing on page 263C.

Some family notes handed down in Debra Odekirk's family indicate that Elizabeth may have married a third time to a man named White, a Baptist Preacher. A search of the 1880 census reveals there was a clergyman in Newton Co MO named Pleasant M. White. He was 44 in 1880, just slightly older than Elizabeth Dabbs Warren Bunch. His wife Sarah, age 45, was living in 1880 and the had these children: James H. 18, Silas N. 16, Saml. H. 14, Samantha J. 11.

1900 census. McDonald Co, Richwood Twp, p.137, household 20.
Pleasant White, b. Mar 1836, age 64, married 30 years, b. TN as were his parents, Farmer
Elizabeth, Wife [they wrote in White instead of Wife], b. Dec 1836, age 63, married 46 years [but written above that is 30 so she must have stated the number of years since her first marriage to Wm Warren - they were obviously confused about the marriage thing] Five children born, 5 living. b. TN as were both parents.

Paul Barker has done extensive searching in the cemetery records of SW Missouri and has found no clue to where she was buried.

William WARREN and Elizabeth DABBS had the following children:

Martha Ann WARREN160 was born on 26 May 1863 in Rocky Comfort, McDonald County, Missouri.160 She died on 14 August 1950 at the age of 87 in Mundell, Carroll County, Arkansas.160

The marriage of Martha and Joel Morrison is recorded in Benton Co, with the notation that they were "married in Carroll County, Ark."
