Ganum b. 4 May 1829 said to have married Rebecca Phelps 16 Jul 1849. She was the daughter of George & Syntha Phelps. Rebecca born ca 1829, died 15 Feb 1912.

There are two Gainum/Gannum McBees born approximately the same year, 1829 - they were second cousins. Still a third Gainum McBee, lived in Knox Co TN and was born in 1840, son of Gainum C. & Sarah; he was another second cousin. Any of these three could have served in the Civil War. One of these is surely the Ganum C. McBee, private of 1st Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry who signed the Oath of Allegiance at Chattanooga on 3 Jun 1865. The card states "Roll of Rebel Deserters and voluntarily surrendered prisoners of war who took the Oath of Allegiance at Chattanooga". Ganum C. McBee gave his residence as Knox County, TN; he had dark complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, and was 6' tall. [Found on Footnote.com.]
A look at the 1st Regt reveals that at least two of the companies, F and L, were organized in Claiborne Co, neither of which has an existing muster roll. Several of the other companies were organized in Knox Co.
Only one Gainum, son of William Pryor McBee is known to have had the middle initial and family tradition does place him at Chattanooga near the end of the war. However, the youngest apparently did not marry until after the War and would have been a single man and apparently lived in Knox Co his entire life.

Gainum and Rebecca are said to be buried Phelps Cemetery, Claiborne. A map shows that to be near Lone Mountain Road.

Gainum MCBEE and Rebecca PHELPS were married on 16 July 1849 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. Rebecca PHELPS was born circa 1829 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. She died on 15 February 1912 at the age of 83 in Claiborne County, Tennessee.

Rebecca was widowed by 1910, she is Civil District 3, Claiborne Co, TN, as head of household. Gave her age as 72. She had had 12 children, only 5 are living. She was b. TN, her father b. NC, her mother b. VA.
Daughter Ollie, age 32, and still single is in the household, as is Fred, age 20 and marked as a "son" but he was a grandson, the son of John Everette McBee.

I believe the five living children in 1900, were sons James and John, and daughter Marisa, Vina, and Ollie.

Probably both Gainum and Rebecca are buried Phelps Cemetery, Claiborne Co.
