Fourth Generation

40. Robert Wister WALTERS17,20,25,61,77,111,112 was born about 1795 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.1 He died about 1853 at the age of 58 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia.1

Robert Walters married Elizabeth Atkinson. Sur: John Dodson. Consent of Josiah Atkinson for daughter Elizabeth. She also signed the certificate. Married by Rev. William Blair.

1820 Census, Pittsylvania Co VA, p.67. Listed with Robert Walters, Senr and William H. Walters. Age 26-45, spouse of same age. 3 boys and 2 girls under age 10. [That would be 5 children born in 7 years.]
This census also has, p. 48b Robert Walters. 1m 16-26, 1f 16-26. He was probably the son of Jackson Walters.

1830 Census, Pittsylvania Co VA. 1m -5, 2m 5-10, 2m 15-20, 1m 30-40 [Robert Jr]. 1f -5, 2f 5-10, 2f 10-15, 1f 40-50 [Elizabeth].

1840 Census, Pittsylvania Co VA 2m 10-15, 1m 15-20, 1m 20-30, 1m 40-50 [Robert]; 1f 10-15, 2f 15-20, 1f 50-60 [Elizabeth]

6 Jan 1835 Marshall Norman to Susan Walters. Robert Walters, Father. William Butler, Bondlsman. Thomas E. Jeter, officiated.
2 Dec 1844 Richard Walters to Rebecca Rice. Martha Rice, Mother. Joel C. Walters, Bondsman.
10 Dec 1849 John W. White to Mary Ann Walters. Robert Walters, father. Joel C. Walters, bondsman.

Found the following Robert Walters in the 1850 Pittsylvania Co VA Census. Robert Walters, age 55, farmer. Elizabeth age 55; Sarah age 23; Charles age 20, Joel age 35, Fanny age 13 [possible granddaughter]. Surely this is the correct Robert, given the wife as Elizabeth. The Gedcom on this family gave Robert a birthdate of 7 Dec 1775 which is too early - 1795 seems plausible.

In the papers of Mervin Walters were the following notes that I believe to be those of this Robert Walters:
Robert Wister Walters, b. ca 1795. Will probated 17 Jan 1853, Pittsylvania Co VA
m. 21 Jan 1813, Pittsylvania Co to

The records of Robert B. Walters contain some of the above children but also show an Elinor who married William Henry Hardy, a John Walters & a Jack Walters [I wonder if either or both of these is the Jackson above]
The marriage of Sarah & John Carter took place on 25 Jan 1853, Pittsylvania Co VA
Charlie is said to have never married
Richard W. Walters died in Surry Co NC; he married Rebecca on 2 Dec 1845.

There is an unidentified Pinckney Walters, age 33 [born 1817] living only a few houses from Robert & Elizabeth in 1850. Marriage records from Pittsylvania Co show Pickney B. Walters, age 26, to Elender Chaney, age 21, 6 Nov 1843. In the 1850 census, Richard, son of Robert & Elizabeth, lived in a nest of Chaneys. I have not found a Robert B. Walters of appropriate age and birth year to be the Robert B. transcribed from the the Will of Robert Walters. I wonder if this was perhaps misread.

vi.

Jackson WALTERS was born in 1821 in Virginia.

Named as one of the Executors of his father's will.

A Jackson Walters found in Pittsylvania Co in 1850 was age 29 and apparently living in a rooming house belonging to James Williams.

The company, originally known as the "Caswell Rangers," was enlisted at Yanceyville, Caswell County, for twelve months service. The original recruits were principally from Caswell County. It was mustered into Confederate States service March 14, 1862, for three years or the war as "Captain H. W. Reinhartt's Company in the Edmondston's Battalion of Cavalry of North Carolina Volunteers." Edmondston's Battalion failed to complete its organization and was never recognized by the Confederate War Department. The activities of the company from the time of organization and muster-in until it was assigned to the 41st Regiment N. C. Troops (3rd Regiment N. C. Cavalry) on September 3, 1862, are not known. On that date it became Company C of that regiment, and the activities of the company after that date are reported as part of the regimental history.Roster included:
Jackson Walters
Thomas C. Walters

195

x.

Fanny WALTERS114 was born in 1837 in Virginia.

This child is listed with Robert & Elizabeth Walters in the 1850 census, but she is listed after Joel Walters, age 35 - she could be his daughter. There is no Fanny Walters named in the will of Robert.
