The Mabry book states that Mary Frances died in Pulaski Co VA in 1915. "Blue Ridge Heritage" states that she died 21 Dec 1929 and is burried Bellmont Cemetery near Christiansburg in Montgomery Co VA.
John Branscome died while a prisoner of war at Rock Island Illinois during the Civil War.
Mary Frances MABRY and John BRANSCOME were married on 16 June 1859.121 John BRANSCOME57,135, son of Harbert BRANSCOME and Nancy DALTON, was born in 1842 in Carroll County, Virginia.57,136 He died on 7 January 1864 at the age of 22 in Rock Island, Illinois.136 The family is in Carroll Co VA in 1850. Married within the year, with a two-month-old son.
John and his older brothers, Frank, Robert, and Isaaac all were recruited on 16 Sep 1861 and sworn into the Confederacy by George H. Turman, father-in-law of Isaac. They were part of the 54th VA Infantry, Isaac and John in Company G. After the Battle of Chattanooga, John Branscome was carried the company's muster roll as missing in action. He had, in fact, been taken prisoner and was sent from Nashville to Louisville and then to Rock Island prison in Illinois. He contracted typhoid in prison and died 7 Jan 1864. He is buried in the cemetery at Rock Island. His brother Robert also died during the was - his last record was a pay voucher 28 Feb 1862.

Mary Frances MABRY and Isham SPENCE were married on 25 December 1866 in Carroll County, Virginia.121,139 Isham SPENCE139, son of Eli SPENCE and Martha Ellen JACKSON, was born on 19 April 1847 in Carroll County, Virginia.139,140 He served in the military in 1864–1865 at Co F, 4th VA Reserves in Civil War.
Isham enlisted in Co F, 4th VA Reserves on 16 May 1864 at Hillsville, VA. He was transferred to Co K on 24 Nov in Dublin VA and was still on the company records 27 Jan 1865.
The family is on the 1880 census in Carroll Co, Laurel Fork District, but moved to Pulaski County, near Hiwassee sometime soon after that.
Isham & Mary lived with their children in their old age. When Mary died in 1929 they were living with their daughter Samantha and her husband John T. Linkous, near Cambria, Montgomery Co, VA. Later Isham lived with his daughter Naomi and son-in-law Jasper Nunn. Both are interred in the Linkous plot at Belmont Christian Church Cemetery in Montgomery Co VA.
