52. Howard "Chick" HOLDERNESS^77,146 was born on 2 November 1902 in Tarboro, Edgecombe County, North Carolina.¹³⁶ He died on 7 May 1992 at the age of 89 in Greensboro, Guilford County, North Carolina.¹⁴⁷

Graduated from Harvard School of Business in 1925. In 1937 he married Adelaide Fortune, daughter of Dr. Mrs. A. F. Fortune of Greensboro, NC Had 5 children. The marriage date given here seems to "off" by a year or so.

In the 1930 Census, Howard, William & Thomas were all living in town in Greensboro, boarding with Charles W. Angler and his wife Josephine. Howard and Thomas were both selling life insurance; William was a lawyer.

Greensboro, N.C. - Mr. Howard Holderness, 89, the insurance titan who put Jefferson-Pilot and Greensboro on the map in the 1950's, died Thursday after a long illness. Mr. Holderness, former president of Jefferson-Pilot, died at Moses Cone Extended Care Center. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church.
