87. Lindsey HIGGINBOTHAM78 was born about 1794 in Elbert County, Georgia.41 He served in the military in 1812 at 10th & 20th Consolidated Regt, LA Militia in War of 1812. He died on 13 October 1865 at the age of 71 in Rusk County, Texas.41
Moved to Feliciana Parish LA about 1811 along with family. Willis, his brother, Lindsey and cousins, served in the 10th & 20th Consolidated Regt., DeClouet's Regt Louisiana Militia, War of 1812.
Lindsey married Nelly Higginbotham, 22 Dec 1817, West Feliciana Parish, his first cousin once removed. This family moved to Indian lands in MS in 1829. In 1835 they moved into Chickasaw Indian Territory and settled in what became Yalobusha Co. In 1848 along with their married children the entire family moved to Rusk Co TX.

Joseph was about eight when his parents moved to Hinds Co, MS, and then to Yalobusha Co. He married Nancy Wright, 10 Dec 1846. Joseph's father gave him 80 acres of land which they sold to Samuel Reese, on 12 Aug 1848, just before moving to Rusk Co, TX. They lived in Rusk Co about 15 years, then moved to Upshur Co and then Rains Co by 1880.

Jasper was about twelve when the family moved to Rusk Co, TX. He married Temperence Goodwin, 29 Jun 1854. Before 1860 they moved to Hill Co, TX where Temperance died on 7 Apr 1860, leaving Jasper with two young children.
Jasper moved back to Rusk County and joined the 7th Texas Regt, Company I, early in the Civil War. The unit was captured at Ft. Donelson, TN, 16 Feb 1862 and he was sent to Camp Douglas in Chicago. More prisoners died there than in any other Civil War prison, North or South. He died less than a month before his unit was among a prisoner exchange in vicksburg, MS.
Jasper's father Lindsey was appointed guardian of his children Ellen and Hannibal, April 1862, but he died shortly after. The children were raised by their aunt Mary Jane Higginbotham Bennet and her husband.
