From a descendant:
Mary Ann/Anziana P. Haden (married Anthony Garnett). Her tombstone is inscribed M.A.P. [Family tradition is that the P stood for Pettris.] The Garnett cemetery is on family farm property which the family still owns in Adair County KY. When I visited the farm last month, I was told that her name middle name was pronounced “ann-zy-ON-ah.”
I have a copy of the marriage bond and her father’s [R.D. Haden] permission from Albemarle Co VA dated 1820.
My great grandmother was named Pettris Garnett and I’ve longed to know where the name came from. I assumed that it was a family name and your research has provided a BIG clue: Peatross.
