Although tradition holds that Andrew served in the Civil War, his actual service and the circumstances surrounding his death has proved elusive.
An Andrew Hayden enlisted as a private, 12 Oct 1861. He enlisted in Company B, 10th Infantry Regt of KY on 21 Nov 1861. This Andrew died 8-22-1864 at Chattanooga ,Tennessee. In a company history, he is listed as: age 21, height 5'8", eyes brown, hair light, born Marion County, Kentucky, Occupation Farmer. Since this Andrew Jackson Haden would have been in his mid-40's, this is obviously a different and younger man.
Also listed in the "American Civil War Soldiers" database on Ancestry.com is:
A.J. Hayden, enlisted as a private 24 Sep 1861. Enlisted in Company G, 9th Infantry Regt, Kentucky, 27 Sep 1861. An online summary of the 9th Regt suggests it was organized in Adair Co, KY. It was first attached to the Army of the Ohio, later to the Army of the Cumberland. They were on duty at Columbia, KY until February of 1862 - they were then marched to Bowling Green and to Nashville, then to Savannah, TN. They were in the Battle of Shiloh and the occupation of Corinth, MS. They were also at the Battle of Chickamauga, outside Chattanooga in 1864. Eight officers and 96 enlisted men were killed [mortally wounded]; 3 officers and 250 enlisted men were lost to disease.

There was also a Bill Haden living in Elliott, Hh 158, he was age 30. Wife Loakey/Lockey was 25. James 6 and Mollie 2. All born in Kentucky. I have no idea who he might be - it isn't the son James although he was married by this time. Wrong age, wrong wife, wrong children. Some of Zachariah Haden's descendant also had moved to Cumberland.
Andrew Jackson HADEN and Sophia REED had the following children:
|Martha R. HADEN686 was born in 1839 in Cumberland County, Kentucky.689 |

|Elizabeth J. "Betty" HADEN687 was born about 1842 in Cumberland County, Kentucky.686,689 |
