Journal of the Congress of the Confederate State of America, 1861-1865, Vol. 3 Friday, March 13, 1863
Confederate States of America, War Department
Richmond, January 31, 1863
Sir: I have the honor to recommend the following nominations for appointment in the Provisional Army of the Confederate States of America:
Surgeons
[list included] R. D. Haden, Mississippi
[Although Richard was living in Texas at this time, this would seem to be his nomination. He was a surgeon; his father with the same initials was living but was not of that profession.]

R. D. Haden did served in the Confederate Army from Texas, in Companys C & E of the 2nd Infantry Regt. He entered as a 2nd Lt and was mustered out a Captain. Alternate name is given as Richard D. Hayden.

1870 Census. Subdivision 21, Polk Co TX. Singleton P.O. Hh 1671
Richard Haden, age 36, Physician, b. MS
Anna E., age 31, b. AL
Children all born in Texas: Mary R. age 12, John age 10, Anna age 6, William age 4, Charles age 2.
Texanna Powell, age 16, female, b. Texas.

I found Richard's widow and children in the Chambers Co TX Census in 1880.

Also, the Bible record lists Cold Springs in Polk Co in several places. Both Cold Spring and Bold Springs churches are listed for that County, but no town now exists. Cedar Bayou in Harris Co also does not exist as a town.

Very hard to read date of death, it was given as "R. D. Haden" and could be either Richard or his father - family data gives the same date for both, but I suspect one is an error. Certainly both father and son died before the 1880 census.

Dr Richard Douglas HADEN and Anna Eliza WOODALL were married on 8 November 1857 in Cold Springs, Polk County, Texas.1 Anna Eliza WOODALL was born in 1839 in Alabama.854 She died after 1910 at the age of 71.

1880 Census. Chambers Co TX, p.4D, Hh 11
Anna Hayden, age 41, b. AL, parents born in NC
Children all born in Texas: Robbie, 21, daughter. John P., 19, son. Anna, 15, dau. William, 13, son. Charles, 11, son. James, 9, son. Richard, 4, son. Hopkins, 2, Son.

1910 Census. San Antonio, Ward 4, Bexar Co, TX. Enumerated 20th April. Sheet 8B, ED ?51 [faded out]
115 West Magnolia Ave, Dwelling 145, Family 146
G. M. Kelley, head of household, age 52, married 29 years, b. Texas, father b. Ireland, mother b. TX. Occupation appears to be Bar Pilot, a word I can't read, then "vessels". [sounds like something to do with boats to me, which could explain a move to Galveston, but that becomes evident later]
A. E. Kelley, wife, age 45, married 29 yrs, 4 children, all 4 still living, b. Texas, father b. Mississippi, mother b. Alabama
George, son, age 20, b. in Texas as were his parents.
A. E. Haden, mother-in-law, age 70, Widow, had 9 children, 7 are living. Born Alabama, parents b. in North Carolina [which agrees with the 1880 census]

Anna seems to have been counted twice:
1910 Census. Justice Precinct 3, Harris Co, TX [written in margin - Cedar Bayou, Hh 385
R. D. Haden, age 34, b. TX, parents b. MS, has own income
E. A., mother, age 75, widowed. Had 5 children, 3 are living. Born Alabama as were her parents.

Strangely enough, the Kelley family was also enumerated in Galveston in 1910, without Anna.

Dr Richard Douglas HADEN and Anna Eliza WOODALL had the following children:

John Pressly HADEN was born on 15 July 1860 in Cold Springs, Polk County, Texas.111,854 He died on 6 March 1902 at the age of 41 in Cedar Bayou, Harris County, Texas.111

One family record says that John Presley married a "Miss May" and died 6 Mar, 1892, Cedar Bayou ....in which case the following is not likely this man.

The family Bible states that John P. Haden died on Cedar Bayou on 6 March, 1902.

I think this could be John Pressly, although his birth year doesn't agree with the Bible
