Journal of the Congress of the Confederate State of America, 1861-1865, Vol. 3 Friday, March 13, 1863 Confederate States of America, War Department Richmond, January 31, 1863 Sir: I have the honor to recommend the following nominations for appointment in the Provisional Army of the Confederate States of America: Surgeons [list included] R. D. Haden, Mississippi [Although Richard was living in Texas at this time, this would seem to be his nomination. He was a surgeon; his father with the same initials was living but was not of that profession.] R. D. Haden did served in the Confederate Army from Texas, in Companys C & E of the 2nd Infantry Regt. He entered as a 2nd Lt and was mustered out a Captain. Alternate name is given as Richard D. Hayden. 1870 Census. Subdivision 21, Polk Co TX. Singleton P.O. Hh 1671 Richard Haden, age 36, Physician, b. MS Anna E., age 31, b. AL Children all born in Texas: Mary R. age 12, John age 10, Anna age 6, William age 4, Charles age 2. Texanna Powell, age 16, female, b. Texas. I found Richard's widow and children in the Chambers Co TX Census in 1880. Also, the Bible record lists Cold Springs in Polk Co in several places. Both Cold Spring and Bold Springs churches are listed for that County, but no town now exists. Cedar Bayou in Harris Co also does not exist as a town. Very hard to read date of death, it was given as "R. D. Haden" and could be either Richard or his father - family data gives the same date for both, but I suspect one is an error. Certainly both father and son died before the 1880 census. Dr Richard Douglas HADEN and Anna Eliza WOODALL were married on 8 November 1857 in Cold Springs, Polk County, Texas.1 Anna Eliza WOODALL was born in 1839 in Alabama.827 She died after 1910 at the age of 71. 1880 Census. The family Bible states that John P. Haden died on Cedar Bayou on 6 March, 1902.
