Fourth Generation

280. William M. HADEN462,463 was born in 1794 in Virginia.1 He died between 1860 and 1870 at the age of 66 in Mississippi.1

William M. Haden was badly indexed in 1830 on Ancestry. The name was Hadeis - it is quite plainly Haden when viewed.
1830 Lowndes Co, MS [handwritten p.73, same page as brother Robert D.]
William M. Haden: 2m under 5 [Robert and ???], 1m 5-10 [John], 1m 20-30 [William, but he was older]
1f under 5 [Ann], 1f 20-30 [Mary]

1840 Lowndes Co, MS [Handwritten p.14]
William Hayden: 1m under 5 [Hamilton], 2m 5-10 [Charles & Samuel], 1m 10-15 [Robert], 1m 15-20 [John], 1m 40-50 [William]
2f under 5 [Saphronia and possibly Isabella], 1f 5-10 [Sarah], 1f 10-15 [Ann], 1f 30-40 [Mary]

In February of 1841, William M. Haden asigned to McKinney Holderness three patents of land in Township 18, Lowndes Co. McKinney had an adopted daughter, Harriet Hayden, born about 1837. This coincidence of names is curious.

1850 Winston Co MS Census. William & Mary with all but the two oldest children. Mary born in GA. The oldest child still at home is Robert, age 22 (b. 1828), and he's also listed as born in GA, which is probably an error. Sarah, age 18 (b. 1832) in MS. Charles is shown as 16 (b. 1834).

1860 (at Quitman taken 25 July), Clarke Co MS: William (head) 65 VA; Mary 59 GA; Isabella 20 MS; Charles 27 MS; Hamilton 23 AL (I wonder about the AL since all other children are b MS?) I guess it could be, but not likely.

1870 (at Enterprise taken 20 July): Mary (head) 68 GA ; Isabella 26 MS; Annie Johnson 29 MS; Martha Johnson 11 MS; William Johnson 13 MS; Mary D. Johnson 7 MS; Mary (Z ?) Johnson 10 MS.

In 1870 they are living in what is called the Souenlovie community just out of Enterprise proper (I can't find my record of what road). This was property owned by the Johnson's, and not far from Annie's sister, Sarah J. & J. W. Smiley's property.

On the 1870 Clark Co., MS "Clark Co. Tax Assessment on Land" notices is the following listing: Mrs. S. A. (Sophrona Ann) Johnson; 40 acres of land (SW 1/4 of NE 1/4 of Section 27, Township 3, Range 14); Value per acre $1.25; Total Value of lands now taxabel = $480.00.

There is an old old cemetery in the Souenlovie community with graves marked by old old fieldstones, for the most part grown over with large pines. I feel sure this is where William & Mary are buried and possibly Annie also. There is a newer cemetary about 100 yds east of this one on same side of road just behind the Souenlovie Church; but there are no Haden or Johnson graves in it. We have checked out numerous cemetaries is the area, but have found none marked with Haden or Johnson. The Souenlovie Church is on property once owned by the Johnsons and given for the building of the church.

William M. served in the "War of 1812"
SOURCE: "Index to War of 1812 Pension files Vol II G - M" ; and I quote:

23 Aug 1826. John McGowen of Monroe Co, Mississippi, deed of gift to Daughter Mary, wife of William Haden, for consideration of $2 paid by Robert Haden Sr (of Lowndes Co MS). To my daughter Mary, Negro woman Betty and her child George.

Mary was living with her daughter Isabella in the 1880 Census:
I found Mary "Hayden" with Isabella in Jasper Co, MS, Superviors Dist 1, ED 108, p.16b, Household 247:
Wedgeworth, James M. age 30, farmer, b. MS, father b. NC, mother b. VA
Isabella H., age 40, wife, Keeping House, b. MS both parents b. GA
Mary Hayden, age 77, Mother-in-law, at House, [they started to mark "Blind" but crossed it out and wrote in "nearsighted"], b. GA, parents born in NC
Annie Johnson, age 42, Keeping House, b. MS, parents b. GA
William H. age 22, son, works in farm, b. MS, father b. TN, mother b. MS
Tobias, age 12, son, at school, b. SC, parents born in SC
[Neither of these last two boys have a surname written in, so one would presume they are Johnsons.]

William M. HADEN and Mary MCGOWAN had the following children:

John J. HADEN was born about 1824. He died in September 1849 at the age of 25 in Winston County, Mississippi.1

Died of typhoid. He is listed in the 1850 Mortality Census for Winston Co MS.

Ann HADEN465 was born between 1825 and 1830.1 She died about 1841 at the age of 16.1

Living with James Wedgworth and Isabella, younger sister in 1880. I believe she was then Annie Johnson and had two Johnson boys with her. One seems to be hers, the other one possibly not.
Annie Johnson, age 42, b. MS, parents b. Georgia [same information given by Isabella]
